Gah. I am horrible when it comes to cutting down my decks. My problem is I want to put 4 of everything in. What's your problem when you start building decks?

Kuberr

Keeping one strategy in a deck and sticking to it.

For example, my vintage deck has like 3 - 4 ways to win, but I use it for insurance.

I think its better to just build off one idea. That's the hardest part for me.

JaxxLevia

I think that building a deck is close to the most enjoyable thing about Magic, a bit like prefering to build something out of Lego over playing with the creation.
I think the toughest part for me is weighing the overall card CMC against amount of lands/mana-ramps.

Langku

That's a great metaphor Jaxxlevia. I collect Legos and mtg the same way. I have a binder full of organized cards and I only keep a couple of decks built. Similarly I've organized my Legos by pieces and I just pull the ones I need when I build. I prefer   the collecting and building more than the playing with both hobbies.

4 of in a deck means you really want to see this card in your opening hand and it won't hurt you to draw extras of it. (4 to me is generally a fast creature I can always cast easy, control cards...depending on the deck, just all around useful cards in most situations)

3 of means you would not mind it in your opening hand but you really don't want to draw more than 2 throughout the game.  (I use a lot of 3 of's in my decks)

2 of should be avoided since the odds of drawing it are low.  There are cards like {coat of arms} or legendaries or other helpful cards you may put just 2 of and that is ok.....just save 2 of cards for cards you don't want to draw a lot of and you only want to see 1 in a game ever. (I try to avoid 2 of's unless it is a helpful card I want to maybe see once in a game)

1 of should be used for those bomb game winners like {sword of insert and insert} or something that you definetly only want one of in a game and is a card that could suck to draw cuz you can't use it yet or is awesome to draw when you need it. (I tend to do quite a few 1 of's in my decks for those situations when you need an awesome card)
