So my friends are utterly obsessed with {Cloudshift}. It is fun and all but I saw one of the use it as kind of an anti-removal card. I am not sure if it works this way. If you attempt to {Terminate} my creature and play {Cloudshift} on it does me exiling said creature and it returning make it an invalid target? Or is {Cloudshift} in fact that useful?

SpiritedAway

Sure does. {Cloudshift} is an awesome card. It's uses are vast. My most recent love has using it on {Broodmate Dragon} in my 5 color dragon control deck.

Leviathan

Wow. I will grow to hate this card. Not because it's bad but because my friends will run this in every deck they build for the next three years.

Jake, Fart Sculptor

Yea it is definately one of the stronger commons that has come out in a while.

Atip

Using cloudshift with even fiend hunter is amazing because once you summon fiend hunter and INSTANTLY cast cloudshift you permanently exile one creature and you exile another one because cloudshift resolves before fiend hunters LTB ability resolves.

So {cloudshift} caused both ETB and LTB effects to trigger?

Yes.

{Cloudshift} can shake any targeted removal, but won't help mass removal ({Terminus}) or non-targeting removal ({Geth's Verdict}, and you only have one guy).

Still, its uses are enormous!

This effect reminds me of phasing which got errata several times and now doesn't affect ETB or LTB.  These are powerful effects...

So {cloudshift}ing right after a miracle {terminus} will still make me put creature in library?  What about return at end next end step will my creature be okay then against terminus?

Correct, look at it this way. Terminus is cast, it goes on the stack, you cast cloudshift as a response, the cloudshift resolves first just blinking your creature out and then back in, now the terminus will resolve and still return your cloudshifted creature.

Terminus is cast and put on the stack, you cast cloudshift so it resolves first, then terminus resolves and still returns all creatures.

So no cloudshift will not help with any mass removal.

How is getting {doom blade} on my creature, response cloudshift different from same scenario with terminus. Is It because the doom blade fizzles with "no target"?

Thanks.

cltrn81

Nuff quoting lol.

Exactly right it fizzles cuz there is no target.  Once you cloudshift a creature it leaves the BF and re-enters as a "different" creature....if that makes sense.  So a card that uses the word "target" would fizzle and go to the GY since it's target left the BF.....regardless if that same card then re-entered the BF since it is now a "different" creature or different target if you will.

Make sense?
