Tree says "exchange target opponent's life total with Tree of Persition's toughness" does this mean Tree's toughness changes to the opponents life total?

Ruling 7/13/16

When the ability resolves, Tree of Perdition's toughness becomes the targeted opponent's former life total and that player gains or loses an amount of life necessary so that his or her life total equals Tree of Perdition's former toughness. Other effects that interact with life gain or life loss will interact with this effect accordingly.

The interesting thing about this is that with {Tainted Remedy} if their health total increased it counts as gaining life.

So say if their life total is 10, and you use the tree's ability while it is a 0/13, tainted remedy would make the opponent go down to 7 (if I'm not mistaken).

They do not gain life
They exchange life totals

Thefluffymacheen is correct. When your life total changes you are deemed to have gained or lost life to get to your new life total. I don't have time to search for the actual rule right now, but I know it to be the case as I got a question wrong on my first rules advisor test because I assumed it was different.

There's an angel from M15 that has the ruling. Can't remember the name.
