So I'm new to magic and have been playing with a friend that is seasoned. I played Gaea's Revenge and the next turn he played two sourcery spells that cast -4/-4 to all creatures which would kill Gaea. In response I played instant "make a stand" which makes Gaea indestructible or so I thought. My friend says it doesn't matter and Gaea died anyway because the damage had already been dealt and his toughness was below 0 so he's dead anyway. Is this true?

Thanks for clearing that up! Since I'm new to the game I wanted to make sure and not just lose because my friend is making up rules lol.

Welcome indeed.
When you have a question about a certain card, it really helps to link them in the app. You can do so by using curly brackets around the card name.
{terror}, for example. If you quote this post, or llama's for that matter, you can see the brackets.

In other news: enjoy MtG!

Cool thanks, also he wants to use {infinite obliteration} on {gaea's revenge} as well but I was under the impression that he couldn't because Gaea can't be the target of non green spells...

Adamheilig

Damn, I can't defend against that...

Trick is indeed in the wording. You name a card, then target an opponent. Gaea is never targeted, so it's ok.

It does target you, so if you'd get hexproof with  {Sigarda, Heron's Grace} for example, he couldn't target you.
