with ascendancy on the field I attack with two creatures.  Then I cast a spell that triggers ascendancy.  I can untap my creatures ? Will they still be attacking ?

Untapping a creature doesn't remove them from combat and doesn't prevent any damage they would deal or take.  This is also relevant for things like {Maze of Ith}, which does prevent the damage, but it's still an attacking creature.

Wow. I played a token deck with goblins. He also used stoke the flames for convoke.
