The new SB is solid

At a PPTQ this weekend, did well vs abzan, but I noticed my deck was really lacking a win condition for basic damage.

Hexproof creatures are very tough to deal with also. So...adding a mauler for that reason

Also Ashiok never showed up in any of my games, he is very much a solid card in my build that does become the appropriate threat it should be

Courser of kruphix - it's becoming apparent to me that it may not be for this build - I rely on mana open for instant answers. A t3 courswr usually is destroyed, or it begins to reveal your whole game plan. So going to drop the coursers this week.

Prog sphinx, wonderful with synergy, great wall but 5 mana makes it really expensive, I would rather have a sagu on the floor becoming a heavy threat

Adjustments:

-2 Deathdealer
-1 Negate
-3 Courser of Kruphix
-1 prog sphinx

+1 Thoughtseize
+1 Carytid
+2 Sagu Mauler
+1 Horizon Chimera (seriously my MVP)
+1 Mana confluence
+1 Ashiok

Hmm... I have to say cutting courser is ballsy beyond belief. It's the glue in my deck, without it my deck dies, fast. Not only does it set me advantageously against the decks weakest archetype (Aggro) it almost ensures a land drop every turn. A single courser from t3 to t8 has healed you 5. That's more than a whole Stormbreath swing, maybe buying you time. Even if it does flip things on top, things don't change. The Thoughtseize sets you up for knowing what removal goes where. So what if your opponent sees a downfall on top? It doesn't change that you're going to use it to kill something. I've found that in 99.99% of situations nothing changes. And the fact that by playing cards off the top Courser is essentially drawing you cards, which is vital in any control build. That + Kiora means 2-3 cards drawn a turn. But I'm interested to see how your build holds up without it :p

MuggyWuggy

Yeah it's for this week mainly. I just found it ended not being what I want it to be. My t3 is ashiok, counter or charm, downfall. Preferably ashiok with a Carytid in front

For Aggro, I SB in ulcerate and nullify

Is {Ulcerate} really working for you? I've got four from drafting because I thought it might be good and it has sucked each time I've played it...Also, on the {Courser of Kruphix} note, with {Horizon Chimera} he's for sure going to get one life a turn plus his card draw spells get a bonus. I'd say the Chimera should cover the lack of Courser. Besides that I'm sick of the "If green Courser, Poly K and Caryatid." rule.

MuggyWuggy

So tonight the mauler did great

Strangely I was drawing both near eachother

I took out the confluence and kept 2 negates
Much better choice

I liked the 4x of seize/Carytid/ashiok

At one point I drew three ashiok's in a row after being flooded with mana which lost me a match, but otherwise everything was solid

Ulcerate is keeping Aggro board clear, makes it a solid SB for me. Sure 3 life, but being able to remove a t1 or t2 swifty is worth it

redwolv

Have you found anything for temur aggro? I am still having trouble with it. Kunckleblade is OP

MuggyWuggy

Well heros downfall works well after you thoughtseize their ramp won

Sideboard in nullify for sure!

Knuckleblade is cake compared to sagu mauler, just make sure your opponents tap out

I also used a jace t3 to bounce one back after I thoughtseized another. I recommend having a t1 seize for this deck always. Seeing your opponents plan is so key, you can disable them or see they took a horrible land hand and slow down their whole game progress by killing ramp and other key items.

First of all: sagu mauler T4 = scoop.
This guy is the hulk I've been missing to protect my board and usually sagu comes out early enough to decimate anything on the board.

Haven't seen too many wipes in my meta, but sagu has been a great add that adds to scoop factor.

Going to try it without chimeras and with coursers instead for this week. The new format will have much more Aggro & abzan midrange is slowing down as a dominant deck in my area.

Added Garruks Wake and dropped an ashiok due to courser in the mix now. Need a late game wipe, and I do not want to wipe my own creatures. I may have to start trying extinguish all hope. I just don't like the idea of destroying my guys at all, especially if they have a courser who is buffed up.

Fate reforged adjustments

Considering adding monastery siege to MB with fate reforge release, the card draw or 5 mana heroes downfall is just amazing. It stacks also...so double either effect or have both. I would only run 2 max

Drown in sorrow will be MB'd most likely for FRF

Are you going to add Crux of Fate?

MuggyWuggy

Thinking about it. The wiping of my creatures isnt my favorite part but 5 mana wipe is much better than 9 mana wipe.

The hardest part will be cuts.

Depends on what else we get for BUG, hopefully we get surprised, we still have time for amazing cards. Ugin might be the choice for the garruks wake/Garruk slot, would prefer more solid land ramp. But that's why I'm trying courser again.

MuggyWuggy

So 3 coursers and sagu were what was missing from this deck long ago, good bye janky horizon chimera: you will be missed.

Kiora and courser synergy is just too good.

Went 3-0-1 For cash standard split first. We played it out for fun. Mana screw and ashiok is a bad combo for opponents.

Full control works so well, people get frustrated with this deck as I keep their board clear. Games to extend to 20-25 minutes, but if its how I win G1, it's how I win.

Garruks wake decimated an abzan board with elspeth @ 6, 10 tokens, 2 coursers and siege rhino that I let land.

Player was not stoked.

MuggyWuggy

FRF

Monastery Siege
Blue exile spell
Crux of fate

These two cards are the only additions so far, ugin is very tempting over Garruk

Going to remove ætherspouts, despise and silence from SB for the week and try out 4x death dealers for control matches

Any other bug players thoughts on new cards coming out?

the_intelligentleman

I also play BUG control, and well.

Blue exile spell.

Can I play more then four?

MuggyWuggy

Seems like the best card for control in standard

Like seriously, what are R&D doing with the blue cards in the khans block.
