So I was thinking of ways to actually make a winning deck using  {Mayael's Aria}
Say. {emrakul the aeons torn} play a  {Titanic Ultimatum} before my {aria} effect? Is there a place I could do so?

Keyeto

If you can find a way to cast your ultimatum as an instant, you could do this. Just cast it in response to the Aria trigger, and you're good to go.

Found it. {Stonewood invocation} add in an instant summon Emrakul and we're good to go!

Sorry, Emrakul has protection from coloured spells. You can't target him with anything for {Mayael's Aria} to trigger.

If you could flash in {Eldrazi Conscription}...

Well. I suppose emrakul was a bad choice then. ANYWAYS Enough bumping a solved rules thread.

Pleeb

Titanic ultimatum doesn't target. Emrakil will still get the 5/5 from the spell.

It's not targeting though, it's checking power.

But yeah, Pleeb's still right. As per the DEBT (damage, enchant/equip, block, target) rule, {Titanic Ultimatum} would still buff Emrakul because it doesn't damage, enchant/equip, block, or target, and it doesn't target because the card would say "target <something>" if it did. Furthermore, {Mayael's Aria} doesn't target- It's a triggered ability, because it begins with "at", but it doesn't target, because it doesn't use the phrase "target <something>".

Relevant rules:

Protection: 702.16: too long to copy. link here: http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#R70216

Targeting: 114.1a: An instant or sorcery spell is targeted if its spell ability identifies something it will affect by using the phrase "target [something]," where the "something" is a phrase that describes an object, player, or zone.

Triggered abilities: 603.1:  Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as "[Trigger condition], [effect]," and begin with the word "when," "whenever," or "at." They can also be expressed as "[When/Whenever/At] [trigger event], [effect]."

Triggered ability targeting: 114.1d: A triggered ability is targeted if it identifies something it will affect by using the phrase "target [something]," where the "something" is a phrase that describes an object, player, or zone.

I meant that you can't use {Stonewood Invocation} on Emrakul, as per what Destore said.
