Cast iron pipe... Nasty stuff to cut Dx what am I doing wrong here?? O.o Friday we had to cut a cast iron pipe into Pieces and cut the pieces into pieces. It had a scale on it too which we ground off where the blade started but I'm curious why it dulled the bandsaw blades so fast!?! And the slitting saw blades for the mill.

No idea what your doing. But if it's cast iron pipe for plumbing and your gonna be cutting a lot of it you might want to invest in a pipe snapper (ratchet or scissor snapper).  Also angle grinders work well for cutting it but you will burn thru a lot of wheels.

It was about 1/4 thick wall and about 3.5 inches in diameter. It wasn't for plumbing. I had to cut them a certain length then cut the pipe segments into segments of pipe wall (basically curved plates) a certain length but cutting the pipe pieces off dulled the blade so fast

We ended up having to cut off a big portion of the pipe then use the lathe to part off smaller pipe segments because carbide part off inserts held up better than bandsaw blades but then to cut the segments we had to use a grinder and then sand them to size with the sander because the bandsaw blades would dull too fast
