Heroic and artifacts

Say I were to use the equip cost of an artifact...oh idk {Trepanation Blade} on a creature like {Phalanx Leader} the equip cost (since they equip as a sorcery correct?) triggers Heroic?

Negative. Equiping an artifact is not the same as casting a spell. Equiping is an ability. They equip at sorcery SPEED, not AS a sorcery.

Heroic needs a spell to target that creature. An equipment is already a permanent before it equips, so it does not work.

The main confusion was that I'd seen some cards say
"Equip only as a sorcery"
I thought it meant the card became a spell to equip to target creature and you could only do it on your own turn.
But thanks for straightening me out!

For that they would say something like "cast".
