Why are awesome cards like seat of the synod and jace the mind sculptor banned in modern, it's not like there even that powerful, well except jace...

Seat of the synod along with other cards of the same type but different color {Vault of whispers} for example are banned for being artifacts if I'm not mistaken.

They allow affinity to run much smoother than it already is...

Well the artifact lands are pretty OP. I run 16 artifact lands in my artifact deck. If I drop  {Master of Etherium}, or anything with metalcraft...they get buffed by my land base alone. It gets ridiculous quite fast.
