When I was going through the combo corner and saw this.

{Liquimetal Coating} +  {Master Thief}

I thought that with this, a {progenitor mimic} on the {master thief} would make for a fun game.

Is there time to activate the {liquimetal coating}, after the untap step, before the trigger for the {progenitor mimic}?

I'm afraid not. All triggers go off first, then players get priority.

503.1.: First, any abilities that trigger at the beginning of the upkeep step and any abilities that triggered during the turn's untap step go on the stack. (See rule 603, "Handling Triggered Abilities.")
503.2.: Second, the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities.

Wait. This does work. No you cant activate before the mimic's trigger, but you can activate before the mimic resolves there fore having a target for when the copy is made.

This is true; it seems I overlooked that. Good call, Kaleo!

Thanks! I thought it would be. Is there an easy way to read the rules all the way through, or is from beginning to end the best way to do it?

That is definately some dry reading but you'll definately learn something you didn't know before lol
