I read somewhere that even though you can't counter {Supreme Verdict} with {Plasm Capture}, you still get the mana from it. Is that true? And why?

Millionlittlee

That can't be true. I call lies

I believe this isn't true. It references the countered card in the text and as we all know, {supreme verdict} can't be countered...

However, that said, if gorzeyeto comes along and says it can be done, I would not be surprised...lol...

Actually I think it may be true. The spell can still be targeted, it's just not counterable. Same idea behind {Remand}, you can {Remand} a creature played off of {Cavern of Souls} simply to draw a card.

That's what I was afraid of. Just wasn't sure how countering the uncounterable would play out. Thanks! Yay learning!

I thought because the spell never resolves due to no target, that the spell would just fizzle with no effects granted.

"Can't be countered" isn't the same as "can't be targeted." It's like if I cast {Rapid Hybridization} on an indestructible creature. If you check the rulings on RH, one of them states that if it resolves but the creature isn't destroyed, its controller will still get the token. The destruction and the creation of the token are two separate effects.

It's the same case here with Plasm Capture. Nothing is stopping you from casting it targeting Supreme Verdict. When it resolves, it will attempt to counter the Verdict and fail. But the second effect doesn't care whether the first one succeeded or not. If it said "if that spell is countered this way, at the beginning of your next main phase..." then it would matter. But it doesn't, so you will still get your four mana.
