If I have {Megrim} and {Pain Magnification} on the field, and I play a card like {Mind Rot} on my opponent, would pain magnification make them discard another card because of Megrim? Or does it count as dealing 2 damage twice as opposed to 4 damage, and not work?

Grexis

It counts as dealing two damage twice instead of four

Keyeto

Well darn, I was hoping for a real nice discard/burn combo with that one.

You, my friend, just made me very excited to make this deck.

BlackJester

Have a cough? 🍵 Have some soup.

Triple {R} might be tough in {B}{R}. {Curse of Bloodletting}?

Oh that's a nice one too! Any creatures that could help out in a deck like this? Preferably low cost?

Gorzo

#6
{ravenous rats}, {rotting rats}, {sanity gnawers}?

{Liliana's Caress} also. It doesn't deal damage like Megrim (loss of life instead), so it won't combo with Furnace or bloodletting, but it costs one less, and will add more life taken with each discard.

KulrathKnight

{Ravenous Rats} would be a good cheap creature for this. {Painful Quandary} would help trigger {Megrim} consistently. Add {Howling Mine} to make them howl in pain.

BlackJester

Don't forget {Liliana's Caress} as your {Megrim}s 5-8.   ;D

Gorzo

If this is for multiplayer, you can add big discard bombs like {Wit's End} and {Monomania}. Those cards are pretty useless in 1-on-1 games though.

Keyeto

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys! Looks like I have a deck in the making.

Is there a difference in damage vs. lose life in this instance?  I thought any loss of life = damage.

Mentonin

Damage results in loss of life, but I'd anything checks for actual damage it won't see effects saying "loses life"

BlackJester

Right. Damage can be prevented ({Sphere of Grace} for example). As of now, the only way to stop loss of life is {Platinum Empirion}.
