1. If damage is dealt to you from one event (creatures' damage is dealt simultaneously as one event) then you'd end up at -10 life. Same for a 15 point {Fireball}. However, a 15 point {Pestilence} would be one at a time, killing you.

2. It doesn't stop damage from happening, for the sake of lifelink. Only that the damage has no effect on you.
