Witness' ability can't go on the stack without a target, and Wayfinder's trigger can't resolve before Witness' trigger goes on the stack.

You're right I asked a rules advisor today and they said I must have a valid target before the triggers happen.. That stinks. Well next time I need to make sure there's a return in the grave already or just pick up the rally again.
