Mono {W} D/T Bears or Merfolk

I've got a couple hundred dollars lying around, and the Academy finally gave me my computer back. I wanna build one of these two decks. I like both play styles, and I just want some opinions on how well each of these perform in the current meta, and if either would be a good investment.

Thing is this:

Merfolk won a recent GP
Merfolk can easily be converted into Legacy
Merfolk is a {U} deck
D/T is not a modern deck it tries to be, but it's not the greatest

Save the money, or buy something else, and just play on untap for free. Unless you are competing, then I'd suggest merfolk.
