French?

So I've been seeing the term "French" going around, and I have NO idea what it refers to. Halp, plez?

The 'French'/Duel Commander ban list is an alternate Banlist for EDH/Commander, optimized for 1v1 play, where the normal list is for multiplayer.  Key differences in gameplay consist of starting at 30 life and fast mana like Sol Ring being banned.

I'm starting to agree.
Having someone go {Swamp}, {Mana Crypt}, {Demonic Tutor}, {Sol Ring} on turn 1, where me and the third person said "{Island}, pass" hurts.

And then he plays a {Gilded Lotus} turn 2.

French Is usually either tempo, combo, control, or mid game I've found. Meanwhile I've got a t5 Emrakul.
