Is it possible to regain commander life?

No. Any commander damage dealt is permanent. You can of course gain the regular life back though. For example


{Rafiq of the Many} hits you for 8, while you're at 40, you go to 32/8

You then play {Angel's Mercy} to heal 7 life. Now your life total is 39/8

As far as I know, no. This is the closest ruling I could find.... And it's pretty bad.

104.3j: In a Commander game, a player that's been dealt 21 or more combat damage by the same commander over the course of the game loses the game. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704. Also see rule 903.14.)

Why ? I used it because it's pretty straight forward. But yeah, if you played a {Thragtusk}, your life total would be 37/8

Unfortunately, you would lose the moment you get priority after {Lich's Mirror} happens if you have already taken 21 points of commander damage.
