New to EDH. Suggestions?

I'm starting my first EDH deck. My favorite colors are white, green, red. Hoping to combine these 3 into one deck. Suggestion for commander with pros and cons? Does the commander have to be legendary? Good cards to include? Thanks for your help!

They have also just released a new precon with  {Marath, Will of the Wild} and in those exact colors if you want a base to build off of.

That's definitely a good start. The C13 precons give you a pretty good introduction to commander without spending a ton of money. You get an idea of what you want to do with your deck and your playstyle and you can go from there.

With Marath each additional time you cast it from your command zone you get 2 more counters on it right? Because it costs 2 more each time, right? So first time I get 3 counters, second time I get 5 etc?

That is what makes him the most terrifying. He is in colors that can produce lots of mana fast, and is an outlet for all kinds of shenanigans.
