Blood artist and the graveyard

Not sure about this but does {blood artist} ability trigger when he's dead? I've seen it happen in a wizards regulated game, but I'm interested in some funny combos now

Blood artist has to be on the field (or dying) for its ability to trigger. It cannot go off while in the graveyard.

The only time it's ability will resolve with it in the yard is when it dies. If it dies with numerous other creatures it will trigger for each creature that died at the same time.
