Went 2-2 with my Junk Lifegain Midrange

Firstly, I switched {Centaur Healer} for {Loxodon Smiter}. Worked wonders. Along with switching {Grisly Salvage} for {Farseek} until rotation when that will be replaced with that new 2 drop hexproof defender dork.

Match 1: Junk vs. Azorius Control

Automatically, you know Midrange is poor matchup to Control, so I didn't start well.

First game he played alot of {Think Twice} and I was smashing face with {Loxodon Smiter} and {Desecration Demon}. Won T5.

2nd game I didn't board anything. (WHAT!?) my mind blanked on my SB, and I forgot about {Azorius Charm} and {Supreme Verdict} because he never played them first game. I didn't see them at all and my subconscious didn't even think about it. He stopped {Think Twice}ing and started {Supreme Verdict}ing into a {Jace, Architect of Thought} but didn't use the -2 ever. He controlled into Jace's ulti and stole a {Blood Baron of Vizkopa} and I don't remember what he grabbed from his own deck. It didn't matter, I have no answers to Blood Baron. Gg.

3rd game I took out {Loxodon Smiter} (perhaps not what I should have done, opinions?), 2 {Doom Blade} (still wanted something against {Restoration Angel} and {Augar of Bolas}), and I took out a {Trostani, Selesnya's Voice}, for 4x {Voice of Resurgence} and 3x {Golgari Charm}. I didn't start bad but he locked me down. Voice or the Elemental ever attacked, because {Feeling of Dread} {Supreme Verdict} and {Jace, Architect of Thought} +1. He ulti'd again and got {Blood Baron of Vizkopa}. I conceded and we shook hands.

Upset I lost first game, but c'mon, Control beats Midrange. 'Nuff said.


Match 2: Junk vs. Slivers

1st match I got crushed. The guy was running maybe a $20 deck and trumped me. He was dropping {Blur Sliver} and {Megantic Sliver}s. I couldn't do anything. I only had a {Loxodon Smiter} because I had {Doom Blade}s early game vs {Galerider Sliver}, but he overtook after a staggering play. I top decked a {Desecration Demon} and was happy. Until he casted {Cath // Release} and took my Demon.. I became distraught, but not revealing it. Gg.

2nd game I boarded in 2 {Putrefy}'s for my {Blood Baron of Vizkopa}s. The extra spot removal really helped. I mulled to 6, got lands, a dork, 2 kill spells, and {Desecration Demon}, hoping no more {Catch // Release}s. I top decked lands fit a proper T 3 Demon and went to town. Killed before he could sac and flew over his head ftw.

3rd game was great. Good hand at 7 became great hand at 7 with top decked {Archangel of Thune}'s (both) and {Scavenging Ooze}. I was dominating at 28 life with 8 counters on everything and 16 on Scooze. He played {Catch // Release} on my Scooze (MISPLAY!) and {Giant Growth}ed him to 21, and I let it through. I swung over his head with Angels next turn. He should have taken an {Archangel of Thune}. Gg and my first pack.


Match 3: Junk vs Dimir Mill (Huh?, that's a deck?)

It was over before it began. Both games he {Mind Sculpt}ed me and I gobbled everything with {Scavenging Ooze}. GG twice.


Final game wasn't a match. It was destruction. I hadn't planned for this deck in my SB and trust me, it showed.

Match 4: Junk vs. JUND.


Jund? That's a #1 type in ALL formats. ESPECIALLY in standard. Why hadn't it crossed my mind?

So there I was, sweaty palms and fidgety fingers against my final matchup eager to place 3-1. I immediately see a {Blood Crypt} first turn and it hits me. No {R}{B} or combo thereof could get this far unless it had {G}. I am full alert, and scared. We both T2 {Farseek}. My turn 4 was {Trostani Selesnya's Voice}. His was {Olivia Volderen}. He wasn't holding punches. I see {Blood Baron of Vizkopa} in my hand and sigh in relief, he can't take it because of Proc Black. (Thank you!). T5 I drop him. Turn 5 he dropped {Huntmaster of the Fells}. He trumped my win con so fast. I took a chance and attacked. He didn't hesitate to double block. Next turn he {Dreadbore}d my Trostani, I drew my card. Land. I scooped and said gg.

Next game I boarded in all my {Putrefy}'s and a 3rd {Blood Baron of Vizkopa}. I mulled to 5.

It was dreadful. He {Olivia Volderen}ed me T4, I got {Blood Baron of Vizkopa} out T4, not bad. He {Mizzium Mortar}ed him. (Curse you Jund SB!) a few turns and a {Putrefy} on Olivia later, he had {Huntmaster of the Fells} and I had {Archangel of Thune} and {Desecration Demon} in hand. He dropped another {Olivia Volderen}, and I was in a Lose/Lose/Lose situation. Either I don't cast them, and Huntmaster flips and he brings the beats, or I cast a massive bomb and he steals it. The game was lost.


In my packs (which they let us choose! Not just m14, but any standard pack, awesome!) I got a {Supreme Verdict} and {Goblin Diplomats}. I bought 3 more RTR packs, pulled a crap rare, then a {Trostani, Selesnya's Voice} and a {Hallowed Fountain}.


{Pithing Needle} will see play in my SB now. And not just for {Olivia Volderen} but perhaps post rotation Gods and {Ætherling}?

I went to my first fnm last week and ended up going 2-1, 2-0, 2-1, 1-2, and 1-2

It was awesome, first time playing with complete strangers haha
