{Tarmagoyf} is goof in almost any deck that uses green. Dropping it on turn 2 and having it be 2/3 or 3/4 puts your opponent on an early clock and forces them to play around it in some cases:

Usually it survives a lightning bolt if it's a 2/3.

Lightning bolt resolves. Tarmy gets 3 damage marked on it, and and lightning bolt goes to the graveyard. By the time state base is checked to 'die' from lethal damage, his toughness will have already become 4 due to a new card type in the graveyard (an instant - the lightning bolt). Goyf is now a 3/4 with 3 damage on it.

Unless there is already an instant in the graveyard that is pumping him up....but you have a good point.
