It eats my margins, and takes away my profits. Which is the only way to net profit. If I always "hookup" I may end as a Net Loss which will cause me to shut down.

All these kids think that they should get a "hookup" when they really don't really don't know what it does to the store. Maybe once or twice just for customer satisfaction, but to expect it regularly is laughable.
Don't stores only pay $50 a box? My LGS does. Obviously you need to make some money to pay for operating costs, pay employees, get more supplies to sell, ect. but for the most part $90 still makes you money but it also sells more. It's supply and demand. If the price is lower, more people will buy it and you should end up with the same or similar net profit.

At $110, maybe 10 people buy it, you make $600.
At $90, maybe 15 people buy (because it's on sale) and you still make $600.

MuggyWuggy

Far more IMPULSE purchases this week than the general retail year.

Hell I almost bought a box yesterday but the logic in me stopped and just got a bunch of amazing CDs for .50 each :)

Stores pay 72.50 or 73.50 a box ...can't remember which.

I think it depends if the stores actually get them from wotc or if they move less and get them from a distributer. I think the lgs I used to go to got them around the $70 price mark.

I buy two cases a time of each set. Were a very large store. Avg traffic is about 600-900 a day.

I won't tell you what I pay for a case, but either way, margin is margin. 20-30$ margin is not enough to stay in business. I have my BA in Business Management, and I worked very hard to get this far. I can't risk losing money.

Plus, if I do it for one person, someone else will ask for that, and so on. If I tell them no, I lose business. Not a very smart business plan.

I feel I ran a very good sale. It was extremely successful. So either way we win.

I typically let my manager handle the ordering of magic cards and decides on prices for such.
