My friend waits till he has 10 land and hits me all at once w/ 10 poison counters just with that one card. Is it legit?

The ability changes itself into a 1/1 and not give it +1/+1. It does not change other lands, just itself.

It would take 10 unblocked damage to give you poison counters and end the game, so the creature needs to be eh, 10/10?
