It would work for a Mutliplayer matchup, but the damage is already been assigned for the card so it's assigned

Turn 1: Island
Turn 2: Swamp.  Tap out, {Duskmantle Guildmage}
Turn 3: Island.  Tap 2, {Illusionist's Bracers}.
Turn 4: Random land.  Tap 3, equip Bracers to Guildmage.
Turn 5: Land.  Tap out, {Jace, Memory Adept}.
Turn 6: Tap 2 Islands & Swamp to activate Guildmage ability.  Activate Jace's 0 ability.  Game over.

How does this not work?

Cuz u need to re-read that equip card, doesn't it say if its not a mana ability?

Mana ability refers to creating mana, duskmantle is an activated ability. It wouldn't work for things like  {Llanowar Elves}.

Idunno why I was thinking mana abilities as in costing mana to use.

The ability says "whenever an opponent loses life..."

No player is targeted, nor specified. If three opponents somehow milled 10 cards simultaneously, all three would lose life from the Guildmage's abiliity.

I think he's confused by the "you may choose new targets" in {illusionists bracers}. If that's the case, I just want to point out that "may" gives you a choice. You don't HAVE TO choose new targets. It's just an option.

Edit: But as Testset said, the Guildmage doesn't target, so the "you may choose new targets" is ignored anyways.
