Trample vs Spiritmare

Ok so me and my friend both have 6 life and he attacks with a 12/12 with trample and I block with Spiritmare. Who wins???

All jesting aside, let's say you are talking about {Spitemare}.  It's ability is triggered by the damage.  This means that the damage has already been dealt.  Sorry, you didn't make it out of that one alive...     You'd be dead before {Spitemare}'s trigger would be put on the stack.

If it was a replacement ability (if the word "instead" showed up) things would be different.

Eitherway you friend has 6 life and {spitemare} has a toughness of 3.  A 12/12 trample will only assign 3 dmg to the CandyCaneZebra so it would only be able to deal 3 dmg.....not 12
