Either you can't play gruul, or, and this is what I think, you play it, then have to return it to your hand

You return them to ur hand. If there are conditions they have to be met

I do that mid-game with landfall and {Horn of Greed}. Play it and bounce it.

Or you could go { torpor orb} for the creatures toll they make one for lands
