Sooooo, my LGS has a black border braingeyser for sale for $20.
I woulda picked it up on the spot but I can't tell what set it's from.
Any tips to tell if it's alpha or beta?

Kareason

Alpha has corners that come to a nice sharp point. Beta has the more "modern" corners that round off at the top. They is the easiest way.

Alpha cards have more rounded corners.  Beta cards have the same corners that the cards do now.

I think the cards with the sharp corners where actually some special collectors edition cards.

If you use the card database on this app.  You can look up {braingeyser}.  You can click the card name and all the versions of that card will come up.  You can look at an alpha, and beta version.  You can see the slight difference in the corners.

Coffee Vampire

If it's between alpha and beta, and the card is $20.00, you should just get it. The average for beta is around $60.00!

I guess you just need to make sure it's not that MTGO masters edition IV.  Whatever the hell that is??

Depends on the quality, but it's likely worth more than $20.

I agree I'd buy it in a heart beat no questions asked most likely
