The point is that they're the same mechanic with different names.

Which is why I doubt it'll be the old thing coming back. I also don't think it meets the "lots of people want this" criteria, given that the typical reaction to it that I've seen is pretty much this.

INN didn't have any, though. Pretty sure all its lore comes from articles on DailyMTG.

Rules / Re: Oblivion Ring loop
April 25, 2014, 02:16:51 PM
Not in a two-player game. When the first Light comes back, the only other nonland permanent would be Light 3 (currently exiling Light 2, allowing Light 1 to come back), which would have the same controller as Light 1. And Light can't target anything its controller controls. So the loop can't happen.

He dies, and Liliana resurrects him because he was the only one who knew anything about Griselbrand.

You lose only when state is checked. If you use something like {Cloudshift}, state isn't checked until the effect has fully resolved, at which time the angel is back on the field. You won't lose.

Right, "as" doesn't indicate triggers. It indicates replacement effects, which don't use the stack. "As {Cavern of Souls} enters the battlefield..."

i just mean it seems like many of these cards were made with edh in mind.
They were made with casuals in mind, just like always. EDH happens to be casual format; that doesn't mean the cards were designed for it specifically. Casuals love cards like {Worst Fears}, EDH notwithstanding.

Sets have always been this way. There are bad cards on purpose. There are overcosted, splashy cards, intended to excite casuals and get them to buy packs, on purpose. Only a small minority of cards are pushed for competitive Constructed play. None of this has changed.

Legendaries didn't exist when the game started, and the rules around them have changed once or twice before.

I have two standard decks. I used to have a bunch of casual decks, but I took them apart months ago.

Quote from: particle on March 21, 2014, 02:13:54 AMshouldn't redirect still be in the process of being cast and thus not yet on the stack and thus not a legal target for {cancel}?
The only target Redirect needs is the spell you're targeting, e.g. Cancel. You change the targeted spell's target when Redirect resolves, at which time Redirect is still on the stack and a legal target for Cancel.

Rules / Re: Xenagos, God of Revels and devotion
March 22, 2014, 02:37:34 PM
Permanents can't add more devotion than they have mana symbols. BTE adds two to your devotion to red, two to green, and two to red and green.

From the BNG FAQ:

QuoteYour devotion to two colors is equal to the number of mana symbols that are the first color, the second color, or both colors among the mana costs of permanents you control. Specifically, a hybrid mana symbol counts only once toward your devotion to its two colors. For example, if the only nonland permanents you control are Xenagos, God of Revels and Rubblebelt Raiders (whose mana cost is ), your devotion to red and green is five.

No, you cannot have it enter the battlefield as an Aura. From the Theros FAQ (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/faq/ths):

QuoteIf a permanent with bestow enters the battlefield by any method other than being cast, it will be an enchantment creature. You can't choose to pay the bestow cost and have it become an Aura.

They released the Gatecrash cycle in Theros to balance the amount of time those pairs got in Standard last year. Then, for BNG, the temples match the gods in the set whose temples hadn't already been released in Theros. JOU will have the last two.

Yes. Creatures always deal combat damage equal to their power, regardless of opposing creatures' power or the defending player's life total.
