I did some play testing and found Garruk Primal Hunter may not work well for this deck.  GGG may not be available to the deck by turn five making this a dead card until more green is available.  I was thinking of putting in Force Field or something else that I cast earlier but still provides benefit late game.  Any other suggestions?   Thanks.

Blood Moon, contamination or any mana denial like that would probably destroy this deck.  I don't know if five basics on their own would help unless I had a way to tutor for them.  Maybe I could swap in journeyers kite for one of my mana rocks or something. 
I have chromatic lantern in the deck as it is.  Think its worth putting five basics in with the kite or would it be ok for most scenarios as is?

I used to have a Polymorph deck featuring Progenitus back when Shards was still in Standard and wanted to create something like it in Commander. 

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

If golden tail is your general you can turn any if your creatures into a samurai so you don't necessarily need all samurai creatures and could have other strategies in play for the deck.  Oh and remember each counter granting bushido 1 is stackable with other instances of bushido.  So if it has two counters from golden tail I believe it would basically have bushido 2 since each instance of bushido triggers separately per the rules.

I did a quick search and here are a few samurai suggestions:

 {Konda, Lord of Eiganjo} used to be my mono-W general for a voltron style deck.  He worked very well with things like  {Nemesis Mask} and  {Pariah's Shield}.  Plenty of flavorful cards that go with him from Kamegawa including the two you have an eye on.  If you decide to go with the samurai theme I think this would be cool {Konda's Banner} regardless of your general but it'd be a better fit for sensei golden-tail or konda IMHO.  Could always do  {Kemba, Kha Regent} if samurai theme isn't a priority.

Agreed on the precon being a great way to start.  It has the essentials and it's cheap.  Could add in some goodies like {Asceticism} and {Darksteel Plate} to protect animar.  {Erratic Portal} would work nicely too then throw in enter battlefield creature like {Duplicant} and {Woodfall Primus} with {Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker} for profit.  :-$
{Mana Reflection} , {Primeval Titan} , {Oracle of Mul Daya} and {Glen Elendra Archmage} would round it out nicely from there and it doesn't break the bank.

I agree with Gorzo on surge being a gamble plus it will always be
expensive and could exile something good.  I prefer riding the wave
myself but then again if you have mainly permanents and you manage to
put an {Akroma's Memorial} into play along with an army you will
likely win.

To that end, I would suggest the following permanent based solutions
to consider for the deck:

Assuming you put a land into play prior on the same turn then yes you could cast ground swell then berserk at instant spee before combat damage is dealt to win.  Elf would become a 5/5 with ground swell then berserk would make it a 10/5 with infect.  Pretty nasty little combo if you can draw the components early and they don't have instant speed removal or something to block with.

Looks pretty good and flavorful :) so far. 
{Karmic Guide} is good for creature based resurrection and you could always let it go back to the yard. 
What about creature sac outlets?  {High Market} , {Phyrexian Tower} , {Grim Backwoods} etc plus creature based ones like {Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter} or {Nantuko Husk}.  If you wanted to add more come into play trigger creatures you could recycle them pretty nicely after saccing.  I see you don't have much in the way of mana ramp so the following might not be that well received without a way to accelerate but I've enjoyed them in my Teneb deck.
