Ideas and Feedback / Re: Averaging a Binder Value
November 22, 2017, 12:29:10 PM
I would like this too Johng4490, but it's a massaging of data from TCGplayer and that has to be done carefully or it could code that crashes the app.  While you're pricing a binder, deck, etc., keep in mind that the real price on TCGplayer is ~92% of the "average" value.

In Piotr's defense, Apple did not give developers much of a heads up on iOS 11.  I've been a software developer for almost 18 years and the features he has amassed in iMtG are from a lot of work.  Give him a month or two to recover from iOS 11's changes.

Ideas and Feedback / Re: List of Expansion Codes

Piotr, could you post a recent version of your expansion CSV file?  In the past 4 years, WotC has been printing expansions like mad.

Free Trade / Re: I'm baaaack.

Yes, $19 was low-balling you, but you could have countered with $21 because that's not low for a sale.  What makes this card $28, TCGplayer _average_ price?  Since you used to be an avid trader/buyer/seller, you already know this, but for the benefit of everyone else...

1. When one is is trading cards, one can compare average price to average price; however, not when one is comparing 6 rares to 24 uncommons.  Trust me, the sum their actual prices will not be the same.
2. If one thinks he can get "average value" for his card, he should open a TCGplayer seller account and list it.  His card will not sell if he lists it for average price, he wil have to compete with the lowest price (including shipping) in the same card condition he has.
3. The real value of a card is usually between 88-92% of the average value, depending on rarity, age, and recent tournaments.
4. I buy cards at auction on eBay all the time and keep track of my expenses compared to TCGplayer's _lowest_price_in_that_condition_.  My current margin since Valentine's Day is 65%!
5. I sell my extra cards on TCGplayer and I get ~90% out of the cards after shipping, packaging, and seller fees.  In the end, I get about 90% of about 90%.  So, I'm getting about 81% of the TCGplayer average.

In conclusion, selling a card for 75% of the TCGplayer average value is a pretty good deal for both parties, not just the buyer.  If one is trading a similar number of cards with similar rarities, by all means, use the TCGplayer average price.  Otherwise, he is just going to annoy other traders/buyers/sellers by the dollar signs in his eyes.

The condition is very minty.  I guess I would also consider trading instead for both a {Sword of Light and Shadow} AND {Sword of War and Peace}.

Notes:
Since the oracle wording of unblockable is "can't be blocked" and iMtG searches reminder text, stuff like Flying, Horsemanship, and Shadow come up when trying to find unblockable creatures or effects.  The sideboard has cards to capitalize on player combat damage.

Discussion / Re: The Problem with Modern
June 17, 2015, 06:21:19 PM
I know this discussion is stale, but I have two suggestions for fixing "unfair" decks:
1) Have ban lists include combinations of cards.  Example: You can play card A, B, and/or C, but A cannot be in a deck with B nor C.
2) Triggered abilities from cannot be added to the stack when they're already on the stack unless the source of the trigger is different.  Example: {Boros Reckoner} can be given Indestructible and Lifelink then can damaged by you to redirecting the damage to itself giving you life.  Then, it can redirect the damage to another creature or player, but not itself.

I like #2 because I really hate losing to ad nauseam combos that require very little effort/luck.  Another advantage to #2 is that it stops combos that you try to stop but your opponent just perpetuates the combo on top of your counter when priority passes back to him/her.  I mean, putting {Aura of Dominion} on {King Macar, the Gold-Cursed} results in an ad nauseam combo that doesn't require multi-stacking triggered abilities, but combos like that could be addressed by idea #1.

So, I got a foil {Ugin, the Spirit Dragon}...I don't even remember what the other rare was.  I've considered selling it, but I'm thinking about trading it for something like

{Batterskull},
{Blightsteel Colossus},
{Crucible of Worlds} (Fifth Dawn), and
{Mycosynth Lattice}
or
{Jace, the Mind Sculptor}
or
{Lion's Eye Diamond}

I am not interested in getting 50 cards from my Want Binder out of this.
