Standard / Re: Ramp into Villainous Success.
December 09, 2014, 12:39:47 AM
Credit to TCGPlayer.com (http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=12167) for this awesome list.  I took this list and modified it for my local meta and was extremely successful with it.  You can take out all the expensive cards and add in more budget stuff to fit your cost but this is the shell I would be trying to mimic if I was you.  I won 2 back to back FNMs with it and an Open Trial for StarCityGames.  The best story I had with this deck was being at 1 lift and top decking a Wealth then casting it for X=16 against an Abzan deck.  He quit after I flipped 10 creatures a Sorin and 2 kill spells for his creatures.

3 {Courser of Kruphix}
4 {Sylvan Caryatid}

3 {Kiora, the Crashing Wave}

1 {AEtherspouts}
3 {Bile Blight}
2 {Dictate of Karametra}
2 {Dig Through Time}
1 {Disdainful Stroke}
2 {Dissolve}
4 {Hero's Downfall}
1 {In Garruk's Wake}
1 {Jace's Ingenuity}
2 {Silence the Believers}
3 {Sultai Charm}
3 {Villainous Wealth}

3 {Forest}
3 {Island}
4 {Opulent Palace}
4 {Polluted Delta}
2 {Swamp}
4 {Temple of Malady}
4 {Temple of Mystery}
1 {Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth}

Sideboard
2 {AEtherspouts}
1 {Disdainful Stroke}
2 {Drown in Sorrow}
2 {Negate}
2 {Pharika's Cure}
2 {Sagu Mauler}
3 {Thoughtseize}
1 {Unravel the AEther}

The main thing to figure out is what you're looking to do with this deck. By the looks of things you want to ramp into heavy threats but you are ramping into threats that are easily dealt with except for {Hornet Queen}.  The main decks in the format have answers to huge creatures. {Chain to the Rocks}, {Hero's Downfall}, {Abzan Charm}, {Murderous Cut}, {Elspeth, Sun's Champion} etc... so going all in on them may prove to be inconsistent.  If you want a devotion strategy you should just go with GR not RUG just because it is more consistent. {Prophet of Kruphix} is great but has a huge target on her face. :(

If I was to work on this list I would change a few things like (This is if you want to keep the RUG theme)
+3-4 {Savage Knuckleblades} (a very hard threat to get rid of, pumps, and can get haste)
+1-2 {Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker} (very powerful card)
+2-3 {Stormbreath Dragon}  (evasion and protection)
+4 {Lightning Strike} (one of the best cards in standard)
+2-3 {Magma Jet} (the scry is very powerful)
+1-2 {Temur Charm} (great utility card)
+1-2 {Hornet Nest} (always Fun)

What I would shave first
-4 {Heroes' Bane}  (They don't do enough to justify the slot, Dragon is better)
-1 {Hornet Queen} (Unless you are reanimator you don't need 4 and 3 is pushing it)
-3 {Chariot of Victory} (Useless with all the removal in the format)
-2 {Prowler's Helm}  (Same reason as above)
-2 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyk} (I would rather have more consistent mana)
-4 {Voyaging Satyr} (Not great without Nykthos)
-1 {Xenagos, the Reveler} (3 is good enough)
-2 {Prophet of Kruphix} (I think 2 is a good number

Then the lands need to be changed for fetches, scrys, and pain lands.  ({Wooded Foothills}, {Yavimaya Coast}, {Temple of Epiphany}, {Shivan Reef}, {Temple of Abandon})

I have found Jace to be extremely helpful in fueling my delve cards so I've been trying out 2 but 1 could be the correct number and maybe putting in another counter mainboard like {Negate} or {Dissolve}

I can get behind adding another Ashiok to have 3 and then dropping Kiora to a 2 of. Thanks.  I liked your version with the {Polymorphist's Jest}.  That's an awesome combo with {Bile Blight} (if I'm reading the Jest correctly)

I have been messing around with this deck for the past few days and I'm trying to take it to my local FNM this week so I was looking for feedback and possible sideboard cards.  I have tested the main deck and it performs well so I like the mana base and it plays a very slow grindy game which I like. Any feedback is appreicated

So can someone explain this to me. I'm being lazy at the moment and don't want to figure it out.  I know how the old eggs works and this intrigues me.

Token deck with no {Parallel Lives}? That card is insane and hardly anyone runs enchant removal main board. I put it into my tokens build and it helped a lot.  Same with {Scion of Vitu-Ghazi}.  People overlook this guy a lot but there is so much value in him.

T1: Avacyn
T2: Voice or Call of the Conclave
T3: Pass and Advent on their turn
T4: Scion and populate the wurm token.

That's 21 power turn 4.... It's hard to stop that and I consistently got this turn 5 in my games.

Honestly {Legion's Initiative} isn't worth the spot.  I'd run 4 {Domri Rade} and 4 {Voice of Resurgence} if you're looking for value after a board wipe. Voice is really good right now in any G/W/x build and Domri is a must with how creature heavy youre running this.

I run a turbo fog build and only have problem will control or mill decks. (Which my side board is completely built to deal with those). The best way I've found to run maze's end is {Fog},  {Druid's Deliverance}, {Riot Control}, {Safe Passage} for straight damge control and {Supreme Verdict}, {Terminus}, and {Merciless Eviction} to clear the board.  I never lose to aggro.

I would say drop a fog or riot control and maybe one blasph for crackling perimeter, I like the aetherling for offense that you have, but if you have 2-3 crackling perimeters out, you can easily ping to death
perimeters don't stack. The trigger only works for one of them not 2 or 3 off 1 gate.

Combo Corner / Re: Mimic the mimic token
May 31, 2013, 02:24:11 PM
This is legit and devastating. I ran the combo in ooze your daddy or any bant build I had. Destroying 2 land a turn or gaining 10 life a turn via thragtusk tends to make your opponent really mad. Plus your field gets flooded with guys. Once this gets exploited in a more consistent way the price of {Progenitor Mimic} will go way up.  Get your playset now.

 {Blind Obedience} helps me out a lot in aggro match ups. Could be a good sideboard option.

You built lifegain without {loxodon faithmender}?
I think you mean  {Rhox Faithmender}

I tested this deck out a lot and {Maw of Mire}, {Decent into madness},  {Destroy the Evidence} and {Griselbrand} will not work in current meta with THIS deck. You need more lands. This is my list which does decent.

Creatures
4 {Ravenous Rats}
3 {Desecration Demon}
3 {Vampire Nighthawk}
4 {Deathrite Shaman}

Instant/Sorcery
4 {Duress}
4 {Mind Rot}
4 {Shrieking Affliction}
4 {Sign in Blood}
3 {Tragic Slip}

Plansewalkers
2 {Liliana of the Veil}
