Discussion / Re: Sphinx's revelation?!?

I pulled a foil one about a month ago and was like "ah this sucks", was gonna trade it too. Didn't think it was playable, {X}{W}{U}{U} still doesn't strike me as a $25 card. Guess it's just the rarity

I think it's a great card for a u/w control deck. In my experience most of u/w's losses are either because of mana screw or because you run out of cards and have to resort to top decking. Sphinx's revelation solves the latter problem incredibly well, not to mention that the life gain usually puts you out of reach of an aggro deck looking for a burn spell to finish you off. I can't think of many games I revelationed for 4+ and didn't win.

If you choose to make the copy you have to cast it right away.

There's probably a reason why it ended badly two times. It's hard to give advice without knowing that reason. If both times it has been due to this person's tendency to use people then it is not worth giving it another try. If both times it has honestly been due to a reason that is inconsequential now, then perhaps you give it another shot knowing full well that it could end badly once again. I prefer to take a realistic view on life, and in reality people don't change as much or as quickly as you would hope. So before you do anything, ask yourself why it ended before and why you need them now. And answer honestly, because that's the only way to find the answer you're looking for.

Articles / Re: DG's Bringing your A Game! Mental Magic?
October 29, 2012, 09:07:50 PM
Perhaps an interesting way of approaching it would have been to compare the tactical aspect to chess and the mental aspect to poker, and then discuss concepts from both of those games that can be applied to magic. It's possible it could provide us with a different way of looking at familiar situations.

Hmm, this article is not generating the amount of discussion I was expecting. Perhaps it as not as good as my previous works. . .

It was good, but I feel like it just provided a broad overview of something we are all aware of. I think you should have given us more examples like the nighthawk/verdict one and delved into how people can improve their mental game. For instance, what questions should they be asking themselves, what are the things they need to consider before making a decision, the different levels of thinking, and how you always need to be thinking one level higher than your opponent. Basically, just provide us with a fresh take on the subject instead of giving an overview of it.

I don't think this is really standard.

How is it not standard?

Discussion / Re: Bonfire crash?
October 29, 2012, 01:28:49 AM
I think it's gone done because it's not as useful as it was pre-rotation. Bonfire is limited as to what it can take out by how much mana you have. For more aggressive decks running red its perfectly fine to rely on top decking one every once in a while, but you don't really want to see one in your opening hand. Fr control decks, supreme verdict is perfectly acceptable, and terminus is a lot better in certain situations, like against zombies. There's no real need to splash red for bonfire in any deck running white, and probably not in a control build with blue. I think that overloading a cyclonic rift could also be more useful than bonfire in certain situations.

Basically, bonfire is still a great card, but there are better options now for some of the more popular decks. As a result there is less demand, the supply is still increasing because of packs being opened, therefore price must decrease in order to reach equilibrium.

I thought that was the legend rule. Planeswalkers rule is the new one kills the old one of the same type...
Example.
I have {Chandra, the firebrand} out. My opponent plays any Chandra planeswalker at all and mine bites it but the new one stays.

Rule 306.4. They both go to the graveyard.

I'm supposed to play darkarts, but he hasn't responded to my PM and hasn't been on in a couple of days.

Really??? The reason I don't play with {decimate} is because I was told it would fizzle. Now you're telling me it resolves? That changes everything!

You still need 4 valid targets to cast it, but 1 target can count as multiple targets if need be.

It's nice if it works, but I feel like there are lot of answers that are a whole lot more likely to show up than this combo is.
To truly make this unbeatable I was planning to get  {Elspeth, Knight-Errant}

Overload {cyclonic rift}. Have fun setting it up a second time lol. Not that it's not a good combo, it's just that nothing's unbeatable.
