Commander / Sphinx argument
November 06, 2015, 06:45:50 AM
I looked at the new sphinx from the commander set and said it was terrible
My friends argument is that you can cast multiple spells from your hand befoe getting rid of the rest.

The card says Whenever you cast a spell, put the cards in your hand on the bottom of your library in any order, then draw that many cards.

His story is that in his plane of existence he acted as a equalizer so no wars broke out, all valuable objects were randomly distributed.
He would force all men whom has taken part in war to commit suicide and he sacrificed himself to save his plane of existence from the phyrexian menace.

When he sacrificed himself he not only killed the menace but he also:
Put a curse on the plane so for every one person to die by a brothers hand. another one died as well.

People deemed him a god hundreds of years later and created sacrificial altars for his glory

Gorith, the suicidal
{B} {R}
Loyalty: 4

[-1] a random opponent gains control of a random creature a random opponent controls
(One dude randomly gets a creature from another dude)

[-3] each creature gains +1/+0 and deals damage to itself equal to its power. Gorith,the suicidal gains X loyalty where X is 1/10 of creatures killed this way.

[-4] sacrifice gorith, the suicidal and choose one
•target player gains a emblem with
"sacrifice a creature: add {0} to your mana pool"

• You and target player lose the game

• each player gains a emblem with
"whenever a creature you control enters the graveyard you may put a poison counter on target player. You do not lose health."

"What am i? But who are you! Maybe you should be asking what isn't. But should you?"

You have to kill yourself too, maybe you could add "if 4 or more people are playing"

So me and my friend always play magic the gathering and I've had a huge problem with memory, (literally it took me a month to remember my friends name) so as always i forget things.
Well we usually play a game of magic and i will try to play something and then realize that something on the field would already have a consequence to this.
In example:
Swinging with a creature while {spear of heliod} is in play. He lets me take back this mistake but later if he plays a angel and i cast {doom blade} to kill it, he will try to take it back and argue that its the same as taking back in the later situation.
But when i attacked all that happened was that i forgot about something on the field.
However for him, he now knows i have a {doom blade} in my hand.
I honestly don't feel thats fair.

P.S while playing he also decides to not inform me of important things like i will go to sack a creature and he will ask which one i want to sack, when there is only one choice like he is banking on me screwing up and takes advantage of the weakness i have instead of the weakness in the deck, he plays to win and always bitches at me when i call him out on being a ass. However this is only when playing magic and he is a really nice guy otherwise.

So, you remove a counter, create two Pentavi, sac one for {2}, pay one and sac the other for two +1/+1 counters. Use the other to create two Pentavi, netting one +1/+1 counter.

Rinse repeat gets an infinitely large Pentavus.
Then, you can start creating tokens without putting counters back. Sac one, float {1}.
Rinse repeat: loads of critters & mana.

Had to write out the mechanic to see it work, but nice one.
What commander are you running? See if that mana can be put to work..

I am running a budget deck with tymaret the murder king.
And by budget i mean "oh hey look how sad his commander is. i bet he doesn't have a deck full of combos and tutors" oh how they are wrong.

{pentavus}
{ashnod's altar}
{illusionsist's bracers}

Equip {illusionist's bracers} onto {pentavus} and use {ashnod's altar} for:

a infinite power/toughness creature
Infinite 1/1 flying tokens
Infinite colorless mana

I play a tutor EDH deck and find this to be one of the most powerful combos i tutor for.

Also i tutor in a specific order of usefulness in my commander deck:
{illusionist's bracers}
{ashnood's altar}
{pentivus}

This way if i get stopped while tutoring i still have usefull cards

The fact you can pay 3 and counter someones commander in edh is huge. Hexproof comanders are countered and any "enter the battlefield" effects won't trigger. Anyone agree?
