There are mythical booster boxes called "god boxes". If you get a pack with more than one rare, buy the rest of the box. I got a god box of RtR and pulled like 25 shock lands plus plenty of goodies because each pack had 3 rares.

Land can fluctuate a lot, I've been investing in cards that have a lower chance of being reprinted like the major eldrazis. You also have to think about value in terms of what people are trading. If a card is being traded, it's still in circulation which means the price will be lower than cards people are seeking but not trading. Your best bet is to pick a unique card/mechanic and buy up as much of it as possible. The more you have, the less in circulation, and supply/demand would keep prices from dropping too much unless the card/mechanic is reprinted. Works the same way as money, the more in circulation, the less it's worth.
