for modern, change {ashnod's altar} to {krark-clan ironworks}

 {Demon of Death's Gate} +  {Darkest Hour} +  {Memnite}s or any other cheap creatures = possibly a 9/9 flying trampler on turn one. not too shabby.

 {Mana Maze} +  {Painter's Servant} +  {Elite Arcanist} + the instant of your choice = your opponents (most of the time) cant cast spells for the rest of the game - exile any instant (a burn card would be swell, for example), with painters servant, make the opponents spells the color of the exiled instant (if you exiled a RED burn spell, for example, you would choose red), cast the spell with elite arcanist every turn on their upkeep, and its basically a silence forever, but with room for creativity

 {Storm Cauldron} +  {Fastbond} +  {Rampaging Baloths} or any other good landfall ability = (while im pretty sure illegal because of fast bond), a really awesome landfall enabler - and mana ramper

 {Angelic Accord} +  {Bubbling Cauldron} +  {Tenacious Dead} = lots of life and angels

Could be possible in draft, but all of them are uncommon so...still fun to achieve!
