Mono Blue Devotion. Yeah. My friend had a handful of decks already made and was like here, good luck. I haven't really decided on a deck I'd want to run myself but the whole working Fridays thing generally makes that a nonissue.

I'm doing Game Day today. Can't get to FNM because of work so this is the first time I've got to play in a while. 2-0 so far with a MUD deck splashing R for Keranos and Turn/Burn. Only bad thing is I think we only have 13 people here.

With all this convoke stuff will we see a {Chord of Calling} reprint?

If they reprint chord I'm going to giggle like a schoolgirl. I actually need to pick up two for a pod deck, would work out perfectly

The backs are the one true constant for the last twenty years. I'd be sad to see that change.

You're boring, control is stupid and I look forward to rotation. /rant

Oof.  That hurts, man.  Control is all I play.  Granted, I don't play standard or even use a single copy of Sphinx's Rev in anything.  Control is a blast to play!

My apologies good sir. Was meant more as a joking rant than anything. Other than the constant "pass" part of it at least lol. But props for not using rev :p

{Dark Ritual}. I want it and {Hypnotic Specter} back in standard together. Such good times

{Sphinx's Revelation}, hands down. Do nothing then draw a bunch of cards and gain a bunch of life is a strategy? I sat down to play a game, not to say pass a bunch. You're boring, control is stupid and I look forward to rotation. /rant

Hard to beat {Demonic Tutor}

I'd really like to see a couple more "tap a critter" effects, like {Springleaf Drum}. Inspired could use some extra love to be viable.

I wanted to build a {Primal surge} deck with it as the only instant/sorcery and run {G}{R} so {Hammer of Purphous}

So knowing that's how you want to build, what are you looking to tutor up? Creatures? Lands? Spells?

The creatures are the easy part IMO. Don't forget about {Birthing Pod}, it's a lot of fun to abuse

Lol y'all aren't dumb. It's weird, which is why I wanted clarification ;-) thanks everyone!

So y'all don't see any holes in it then? I'll have to let him know, thank you :)

The pod deck actually started out as his, but he got bored with it so I took it over (he and I share cards). Now it's just trying to get used to playing it and learning the various matchups. Fun fun

Wouldn't you only get one counter? You gain two life, yeah, but it's only one instance of "lifegain"

Rules / Finks and Thune
May 21, 2014, 12:57:57 PM
Pretty sure of how this works but if my understanding is wrong I'd like to be corrected.

Friend and I are playtesting a Melira Pod build vs USA control. He tapped out and I cast an {Archangle of Thune}, with a fresh {Kitchen Finks} and a sac outlet already on the field. So I'm thinking this should be infinite, because-

Sac Finks, he hits the grave, persist triggers

Finks enters into the battlefield with the -1/-1 counter, puts ETB life gain on stack

When the life gain resolves Thune triggers

When Thune's stuff resolves the Finks' -1/-1 gets canceled out by the +1/+1, allowing me to rinse and repeat. A lot.

Am I missing something here? He felt like something wasn't quite right so it's worth clarifying.

Thanks for being awesome

I'd be interested in seeing that decklist. Sounds fun.

He's out of town so I'm not 100% on the exact numbers, but what I remember was-

Font of fertility think 2
Elvish mystics 2?
Sylvan caryatid 4
Banishing Light 2?
Sesnya Charm 2?
Courser 3?
Eidolon of Blossums 4
Polukranos 2
Dictate of Karmetra 3
GW Ajani 2
Garruck 3
Arbor Colossus 3
Worldspine worm 2
Karmetra 1
Primeval Bounty 1
Heliod 1 but I think he's going to drop it.
24 lands, 4 of each GW dual and more forests than plains. And two Nyxthos too

I know I'm missing a few things in there but that's the general gist. That dictate isn't super crazy with Nyxthos but by the time he was really rolling it didn't matter. Garruck's more of a backup plan for the worldspines, coupled with even more potential card draw. And dropping the arbor colossus with a monstrous activation same turn happened a fair amount. IIRC he said the only thing he really had probs with were pack rats, but there are ways to sideboard for that.

The big surprise for me was that the dictate didn't end up hurting him, because most other decks weren't built to take advantage of it. So yeah, fun stuff all in all
