Clash of Clans / How's the Clan?
December 24, 2014, 05:49:36 PM
I've been off Clash of Clans for a few months now, but I should be back soon. Sorry for not notifiying someone to kick me from the clan first, I hope you noticed after the next war.

How is the clan doing now?  It was doing well when I left and we were winning over 80% of our wars.  Did any of our better players leave?

I like roon a lot as well. Green gives you a lot of options. I can bump up my slightly budget-ified list if you'd like.
That would be very helpful. Thanks.

I think I will use Roon.  I liked Brago because he could double my mana from {Sol Ring} and {Mana Vault}, but I found it seems to not have enough power that the green creatures give.  If only Brago was Naya.

Commander / Brago vs. Roon
December 24, 2014, 04:17:49 PM
Which works better as a Commander: {Brago, King Eternal} or {Roon of the Hidden Realm}?

I was building a Brago deck, but then I wanted to add green for access to more mana sources to blink, {Thragtusk}, and other cards, but I wasn't sure if Roon was as good as Brago.

Commander / Re: New Commander Set

I think the green is arguably the best, but can be fragile, and always seems to be the top target.  I have the black one, and it has tons of potential, is easy to upgrade, can recover from board wipes with its amazing mana and card draw ({Bloodgift Demon},  {Crypt Ghast},  {Disciple of Bolas},  {Infernal Offering},  {Magus of the Coffers}, and more), has creature removal, enough life gain to spend life for other cards, and can be changed to an {Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath} Demon deck or a {Ghoulcaller Gisa} Zombie deck.  I think it is just better than the green deck.

The White deck has a great commander, but needs more equipments!
The Blue deck has the same problem: great commander (better than White), terrible deck (worse than White).
The Red deck is one I've never played and I think I would have to try it to understand the fun of it.  I have seen it though.  It looks fun and fairly consistent, and is never a target.

I've only played the White deck and the Black deck. All the others I've only watched and heard others comments about them.

Most groups make the players remove copies of other players commanders from their decks for that game, or at least any group I've ever played with.

Wild summonings

Whenever you summon a creature, put X 1/1 green and red boar tokens with haste onto the battlefield. During your next upkeep, sacrifice them.
What's X set as?  Or is it just a placeholder as you find a good constant number?

Rules / Re: Convoke loophole?
December 20, 2014, 05:01:19 PM
The new wording in the reminder text is misleading, though.

It previously read: 702.50a: "For each colored mana in this spell's total cost, you may tap an untapped creature of that color you control rather than pay that mana. For each generic mana in this spell's total cost, you may tap an untapped creature you control rather than pay that mana."

Now it says: "Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for {1} or one mana of that creature's color."

And if you tap a creature to activate its mana ability while casting the spell, it seems like it would cause both a mana and a cost reduction.

605.3a: A player may activate an activated mana ability whenever he or she has priority, whenever he or she is casting a spell or activating an ability that requires a mana payment, or whenever a rule or effect asks for a mana payment, even if it's in the middle of casting or resolving a spell or activating or resolving an ability.

Why did they change the wording?

EDIT: found this on the Wizards Community page:

Matt Tabak wrote:
The rules for convoke have changed slightly since it last appeared in an expansion. Previously, convoke reduced the cost to cast a spell. Under current rules, you tap creatures at the same time you pay the spell's costs. Tapping a creature this way is simply another way to pay.

Rules / Re: Mox Opal, Metalcraft, Legend Rule.
December 20, 2014, 01:07:10 AM
No, because the legend rule is a state-based action.

704.5k: If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule."

704.3.: Whenever a player would get priority (see rule 116, "Timing and Priority"), the game checks for any of the listed conditions for state-based actions, then performs all applicable state-based actions simultaneously as a single event. If any state-based actions are performed as a result of a check, the check is repeated; otherwise all triggered abilities that are waiting to be put on the stack are put on the stack, then the check is repeated. Once no more state-based actions have been performed as the result of a check and no triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack, the appropriate player gets priority. This process also occurs during the cleanup step (see rule 514), except that if no state- based actions are performed as the result of the step's first check and no triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack, then no player gets priority and the step ends.

Rules / Re: Killing a creature

If someone could copy/paste rule 704.5g, that is the ruling applying to this.
Thanks.

EDIT: 704.3 and possibly 704.4 may also be helpful.

It is killed as  a state based action the next time a player gains priority (usually as soon as the source of the damage is done resolving).

Yes, the card doesn't have any restrictions on the target other than "creature," so you can target any creature, even the enchanted one.
