Rules / "on cast" triggers
May 11, 2013, 01:30:03 PM
Like my last post, this came up during draft, and is really just a nitpick to help me nail down timing rules better.

He had a Lobber Crew, and cast some multicolored creature. In response to his cast, he tapped the Lobber Crew for the ping, then untapped it because of the multicolored spell. I told him that was fine, but that he needed to rearrange things so that he tapped the Lobber Crew, THEN cast the spell, because "on cast" triggers hit when the spell goes on the stack, not when it resolves. For last nights purposes, it wasn't important, but there's bound to be a point where it is, so was I accurate, or unneccesarily AND incorrectly being a rules lawyer?

Rules / Keyrunes as blockers
May 11, 2013, 01:25:09 PM
I was drafting last night, and went to use my Golgari Keyrune as a blocker. I activated it in the declare blockers step (which I BELIEVE is legal, but not 100% there...I know I've experienced some odd seeming timing issues with activations when using Forge,) and in response to my activating it, my opponent burned it before I could declare it as a blocker. I didn't think he would get priority to do so between activation and block declaration, but he was insistent that it could not be used as a blocker. What's the proper timing there?

Rules / Master Biomancer + Azorius Charm
May 11, 2013, 01:21:45 PM
Ok, I've got three questions, but I understand from the FAQ I need to post them all separately. I feel pretty dumb asking these, because I've been playing for so long, but they all seem pretty nitpicky, and I'm really trying to get all the timing rules down. So, here's the first.

I've got a Master Biomancer on the field, and cast Wolfir Silverheart (or any creature...the specifics don't matter.) In response to the cast, my opponent Azorius Charms the Biomancer off the field. I've gotten different rulings, from L1 judges about whether or not the new creature gets the Biomancer bonus or not, and both have shown me rules citations to support their position, but for the life of me, I can't remember what they were. I'm inclined to think things won't go so well for me, and the new creature won't get the +x/+x, since it's an ETB trigger, and not a cast trigger, but I wanted to check.

Thanks.
