Title: Flicker interaction
Post by: Kaleo42 on August 01, 2012, 10:28:45 PM
{fiendhunter} on a {restoration angel}. If you {cloudshift} the hunter what are the options fron there? Is it possible to do the perma-exile using this interaction?

If {Fiend Hunter} is removed, before his ETB clause finishes resolving, the 2nd clause of the card (the return of exiled creature) will never trigger, as the fiend hunter card isn't there anymore to activate it.

rather it does activate but before there is anything to return.

If you have an angel exiled from the hunter's ability and you cloud shift him, when he leaves and comes back you can stack either the angel returns first or a new creature to exile, but you cant re-exile the angel since it hasn't come back

Say you exile a creature first, then have the angel enter. The creature leaves, then the angel flickers the hunter. That'll make the other creature come back and the hunter can exile a different creature.

Now say you have the angel re-enter first, and the exile a creature (A) second. The flicker will send the hunter out and back, putting both its ETB and LTB triggers on the stack on top of the first exile (A).  By choosing to exile a different creature (B) with the new ETB, the LTB will go off trying to return (A) which hasn't left yet, then the new ETB will exile (B) and the old ETB (from before the angel) will permanently exile (A). If the hunter leaves after that, (B) will come back.

tl;dr - yes, and it's complicated. Just take it one step at a time and you'll get it.

Gah, you're right, that is how it actually goes down. That makes more sense. Yay, stack!

So if i cloudshift hunter having angel enter the field. I first put hunter's ability on the stack targeting enemy creature and then put angel's. Angel resolves first and flicks hunter causing him to get a new ETB and lets say exile angel. Then his old ETB resolves effectively sending the enemy down the path of no return.
Ok thank you for helping me sort this out, at some point i want to build a deck that abuses fiend hunter.

You could use that for an exile engine for combos, massive {champion of te parish} anyone?
