So, I decided to make my legacy mono black vamp deck standard, and I realized, its competitiveness took a huge downfall. It is slow and clunky and doesn't work very well. What are some good ways to make it a bit better? Anyone have any ideas? I didn't know if I should post this in Standard or General Discussion, so if it needs moved, sorry!
{Vampire Nocturnes}, {Vampire Nighthawk} for sure. It might be worth splashing red for {Stromkirk Captains}, all you need are {Dragonskull summit}s to do the trick.
{blood artist} can be good based on the deck. {Bloodline Keeper} also. I'm not sure what the best 1-2 drops are though.
{Murder} is a must.
Other cool cards include:
{Shimian Spectre}
{Tribute to Hunger}
{Markov Pratrician} with {Bllodline Keeper} fliped is epic.
{Ghoulcallers Bell} works with {Vampire Nocturnous}
I'll think and post more when I can.
I'm using Nocturnus, Nighthawk, Bloodline Keepers, and Blood Artists. They work pretty well, but I'm having troubles stalling until I can get them out. I've already got all kinds of kill cards and such, too. I think that is what I need is quick little 1 and 2 drops.
If you are to splash in some red with {Dragonskull Summit} throw in some {Stromkirk Noble}s they are great for a one drop especially against humans. They just hurt {Vampire Nocturnus}.
I played mono black vamps (no red splash) at last fnm (mine is pretty competitive, lots of teir 1 deck) and i came in second

Any staple suggestions other than Nocturnus/nighthawk?
I have a "Legacy"/Casual Vamp deck that is splashed with white for {Sorin, Lord of Innistrad}. It has the Nighthawks & Keepers, {Gatekeeper of Malakir}, {Malakir Bloodwitch}, {Vampire Hexmage} and {Captivating Vampire} (I don't have any Nocs). I use {Dark Ritual} to speed it up. Nine out of ten times I open with a creature on the table and keep a steady flow of them. I posted it a month or so back in the Casual thread and have since only changed 1 {Swamp} for a {Cavern of Souls}

Oh yeah, when i had mine legacy/casual still, it would end up with a nocturnus or two out with a couple {Bad Moon}s and some Gatekeepers to keep them sacing. It was fun. But, I decided to go standard for whatever reason.

Bloodline keeper won me games, as did killing wave believe it or not. Murder and sign in blood are both good as well. And i ran 1 lilly otv, but there there should be 2-3.
Undying evil+nighthawk+killing wave= 😝
Also, killing wave plus blood artist. Either way they loose some life

I call mine that since it fits the "styles" but I actually haven't played a tourney or event since the late 90's. It's all friendly table top, usually multiplayer, for me. I played Friday night and a friend of mine was playing a modded Graveborn and I still managed to get the win. I won't claim it is a perfect deck but it plays well. It's about as quick as Vamps can get and still keep from drawing "bad" cards. I have {Lashwrithe} and {Fireshrieker} in the deck to help add to the punch. Bloodwitch gets nasty when you have 4-5 Vamps and as many Keeper tokens in the table.
Olivia Whatshername and {Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet}
I think zombies work well with vampires for mono black. {Killing Wave} with {Blood Artist} is devastating. Even a killing wave for 0, then sack your tokens on purpose and let dmg fly.
