BlackJester, what formats do you play on MTGO?

I have an account, but a very small collection of cards. Lately, if I'm playing MtG on the PC, I'll go with DotP instead. I'd rather play AI opponents rather than real people on MTGO. I'd either get my 🐴 handed to me, or generally annoy people while I try to learn the controls. 😓
Lastly, I'm already spending more 💰 than I should on paper magic. 😁

You can, but it needs to be a complete set, which means chasing them all down.

I don't want to discourage anyone else from playing, there are tons of people playing. Just not me right now.

Yeah - Redemption is great (commons are 0.02 cents) but I can see where you're coming from. DotP IMO is more fun if you're willing to work within a metagame.

I'm a completist, so I like unlocking all the decks and all the cards.

Thing is that a paper set would be worth more than a digital set, so dole out your cash to get a complete set, switch to paper and sell to someone who has a good priced buylist.

Any! If you have a full digi set you can redden it for 5 bucks to get the paper cards sent to you one of each... I'm Juggalonoke on MTGO as well

Play Pauper or Block. They are the cheapest formats and if you're good at them then you can enter dailies and other tournaments and win more tickets.

I've just been drafting, actually. Hoping to get money cards in them to pay for the next draft. First time I got {Sphinx's Revelation}, then I got I pair of shock lands. But they're apparently worth a lot less here. :(

Hey, uh, when the prices in the Trade section say things like "Buying Blood Crypt 3.6", what does the .6 mean?

Nevermind, someone explained it to me. I'm Raenil on there, by the way.

Am I able to trade in my paper playset for a digital set? Mtgo would be better for me due to the daily tournaments. Also what are the prizes like? Packs for everybody or just those play tokens?

1. No, you aren't. You can redeem a full set of digital products for a full set of paper, though.
2. Packs and tickets. NEVER OPEN PACKS in MTGO except when drafting.

Use version 3? It crashes less often and the interface is more fast.

Totally- DotP is awesome if you don't want to be frustrated with losing constantly. Glad to hear someone more experienced (like Jester) shares my feelings on this.

If they had a true "Just for Fun" room on mtgo it would be more fun to play - as it is, a lot of the decks that really should be in "Tournament Practice" predominantly end up in the other rooms (even the one for beginners). I guess WOTC doesn't have a way of regulating this...

Good point about Packs! I've made the mistake of opening them...

Yeah, never open packs. Also never enter drafts with tickets only. You can buy packs from bots way cheapers than the actual retail price. At the moment only AVR is about the same price regardless buyin from bot or from wizards store.

Offload your excess commons and uncommons to bots. Good rares and mythics are (especially foils) should be sold separate to actual people. You'll get better price.

I'm Locrian666 on MTGO also. Feel free to ask stuff online.

Can someone help me on there? I usually play late at night but sometimes daytime also. I've been playing standard for beginners. What is pauper? I've been opening up my boosters. Why shouldn't I be?
I got a Sorin and foil Gisela in packs. Ill be on in an hour and my name is Marcusdigio add me!!!!

Pauper is format where you use decks using only common cards. Cheap format that has events going on in MTGO so it's cheapest way to start earning packs/tickets, if you win that is.

Prices of cards in digital realm are way lower than in paper (generally). So expected value of opening booster is way lower. Usually only proper place to open booster is draft or limited tournament/queue where you can actually gain more value by winning more packs with those very same cards. Note that format staples are still expensive in MTGO too.

I have to agree with this actually. I've opened my share of packs I bought. And I have opened some in draft also. It seems like I get much better cards openin up packs. Draft always sucks. Boosters I opened hava gotten me a foil Gisela. Huntmaster of the fells. Sorin lord of innistrad. Obzedat ghost council. And more. Best I have in draft is watery grave. Makes me wonder.

Very hard to go infinite there are cheap formats such as momir pauper and draft where the start up minimum. If you win 3-1 you get packs then you can sell them for packs and build up tickets then buy decks for different formats like modern then standard. It's like crack. For me momir is to random so it's the luck of the draw then pauper is so competitive I got an infect deck so it was not consistent think I might restart with a tron deck.  If you want to try this just research and get a constant deck then you would never have to pay to play again.

Hit me up for some Planeswalker. User name is Dudecore.

I've been playing a bit more online because of playgroup inconsistency. I just don't wanna have to buy my cards all over.

Planeswalker format is pretty bad, you don't get swingy turns or a chance to stabilize. Seems like games are over at 10 life. 2 out of 3 decks are Green/Blue/White ramp decks, the other decks are red.

Either way. If I'm on, get to me.

Does it just about piss anyone else off when there opponent quits the game when things are not going their way? It's not the whole I wanna win thing, it's that I wanna learn, I never quit games, if I'm losing, there is still SO much I can learn. Ok, I'm done, sand is hosed out.

Nah. They couldn't charge enough for it. Magic Online has drafts, tournament, different formats. DotP has pre-cons that gets new players into the game. Even if they opened up and let you build your own decks (which you can do online for $5.99, play the "Planeswalker" format) it still wouldn't have every single card ever to make it worthwhile.

If they wanted to make a console client that was cross platform with Magic Online - that'd be wonderful. As it stands, Wizards makes too much off the online game to bother changing.
