Title: First FNM
Post by: Danielkix on July 20, 2012, 03:26:22 PM
Im going to my first FNM tonight, what should I expect?
It's 6 rounds but I'll probably leave after 3-4 because I don't want to stay til around midnight when they end at the store I'm going to.
As for sideboards, I put one together but what's the etiquette on them, after the first match I can go through it and replace cards in my deck then do the second round of the match?
And tokens, do some players get annoyed if you just use a card flipped around to count as a token or they require the actual token?
I don't have dice so I'll try to remember counters in my head.. Wish me luck.

Good luck man
Sideboards, yeah after game 1 u CAN (dont have to) change up ur deck, and u can again after game 2 (if u go to game 3)

Tokens- some poeple are anal about it but if they r good guys they wont care

Counters- u really should use dice, but most people there will probably have some

And the most important part- HAVE FUN

Know these rules.
Always present your deck for your opponent to cut every time you shuffle.
Use a die roll to decide who gets to pick who is going first. DO NOT ROLE A COUNT DOWN DIE.
Whoevers turn it is has priority, you can not cast anything unless they change phases, activate an ability, draw a card, or cast something. Dont let people just do things on your turn, they have to respond to something.
All cards in your library must be facing the same direction and not have visable marks of any kind.
Players may look at their sideboard at any time, but can not handle any other cards while doing so.
Double check your sideboard every time before you present your deck to your opponent.
Have a decklist on you, but dont look at it unless someone is being a jerk and claiming you modified your deck for that match.
Remember to be polite, introduce yourself, and double check you have the right opponent.
Keep track of the number of cards in your opponents hand, and use paper to track life so you have a record.
Remember mana empties on phase change, and know the rules for your cards (read all the rulings for your deck).
Lastly have fun! I realize most of this wont be a big deal, but i garuntee players enjoy the game more when both players know and abide by the rules.
Oh almost forgot, whoever is going first decides wrether to keep their hand or not first.

I didnt want to write that again so i just copied from the last time this topic came up. As for tokens, you can not use and card from your deck or side deck as a token. Other than that as long as you can show that it's tapped and doesnt resemble the cards in your deck (same sleeves for example).

Glad to say it went well! It was fun, opponents were helpful, pulled a garruk in my entry pack. Went 1-3 but mostly because I was nervous and kept making misplays. Definitely will go again

Misplays are part off starting out. The more you go the less it will happen. I still make some. I've been playing for 4 years. But I mainly play for fun.
