How does artifacts work with the Color identity of a commander deck?
What if your commander is colorless?
Color identity is defined by all of the color symbols and color indicators on the card. {Elbrus the Binding Blade} is {B} because of its other face.
I understand that, what I was tring to ask was - how does artifacts like {Adaptive AutoMaton} work when being put into a commander deck?
How would u determin what the color identity of the deck would be with {Emrakul, The Aeons Thorn} as the commander?
If your commander is colourless, then you can only use colourless spells.
Strictly colourless so there is mostly artifacts that does not have any other mana symbol in their cost and text. Most Eldrazis are colourless. I don't think there exists a colourless instant or sorcery or enchantment, but if there does, someone will find it.
If your commander has a colour, you may use any colourless spells in and EDH deck.

For the record, Emrakul is banned in the commander format, so you can't use him anyway.
But, should you choose a different, legal, creature with no color as your commander, like {Karn, the Silver Golem} or one of the non-banned eldrazi like {Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre} your deck's color identity will be colorless. You cannot have any cards with any colored mana symbols in that deck.
Normally, you can only have basic lands of your commander's appropriate color-producing (forest for green, etc), but since you can't have any of those in a colorless deck there is a special rule for it. If your commander is colorless, you may include any of the 5 basic land types in your deck, however they will only produce {1} colorless mana instead of the colored mana they would normally create.

There are a few, {Eldrazi Conscription}, {Not of This World}, and {All is Dust} come to mind. But with the crazy amount of artifacts and silly effects they can do, you can make do without instants and Sorceries. I've been stomped by an artifact commander deck before.
I don't believe that any of the basic lands are allowed with a colorless general. I thought that conflicted with the color identity rule.

Normally yes, but since there are no basic lands for colorless, this special rule exists to let them play. If you want to go to the trouble of getting 40 different garbage lands that don't produce color (because you can't use them if they do) then by all means. Have fun finding 40 things like {glimmerpost} and {ghost quarter} :P

Ohhh alright, that would make things a lot easier. I just figured that was the reason I've never seen a colorless edh deck. Thanks for letting me know about this!

oops yeah, for some reason I had thought characteristic defining abilities trumped everything else.

Even so, you couldn't add {R} mana to your pool.
cheat it out with imprinting artifacts for all it is worth.
If I have a colorless identity how do the mana Myrs work? Do they produce colorless or will they not be allowed because they have the ident of the color they produce?

Alloy, Palladium(sp?) and plague Myr still work though
