Title: Safe Passage and Planeswalkers
Post by: Lunamoth on July 12, 2012, 03:52:40 AM
Can it prevent damage done to plansewalkers?

I believe you would need something more like {Angelsong} for that. If you prevent the damage before they target your planeswalker, you'd be fine, but as far as I know, you wouldn't be able to safe passage damage done to your pw.

{Safe Passage}

^ just for reference. ;)

safe passage = zero protection for planeswalkers

{Angelsong} = protection against creatures for planeswalkers.

But both cards do not protect against burn spells.

Hmm, I'm going to say no.
My reasoning, because I'm too lazy to look up the rules, as follows.

Direct damage to PW's is redirected from the player to the PW, since {safe passage} says creatures and player, I'm gonna say no.

Sorry about not lInking the card! I hven't figured out how to do it yet. Anyway I remember reading sOmewhere that cards targeting players could target pws also. Or was I high at the moment?

If you look at the rulings on gatherer, it says it cannot prevent damage done to planeswalkers. However, it can prevent the damage done to you, before they redirect it to a planeswalker.

If you {Lightning Bolt} a player, you could redirect the damage to their pw

So basically only that kIn of instant spells can target or be redirected to a planeswalker?

Unless the spell targets a 'permanent' it cannot target a pw. However, if you deal damage to a player, that damage may be redirected to their pw if you choose.

Ooohhh ok. Thanks!

No problem. Keep in mind, whoever is dealing the damage gets to choose whether or not to redirect. So if you {Lightning Bolt} me, I cannot choose to redirect it to my pw. It would be your choice.

yes and no.

creatures attacking planeswalker will go through regularly.

But bolt, shock, pinging damage etc. directed at a player will be prevented for the most part.

{Safe Passage} can prevent non-combat damage to yourself before they get a chance to redirect it to your PW.

oops forgot to add the "therefore protecting your planeswalkers" part at the end.
