So what happened to this card? I remember when it was leaked thats what everyone talked about everyone i know preordered a playset or 2, i just dnt see where they went south?
I guess when it comes to {vexing devil}, most people realized it kinda sucks to let your opponent do exactly what's best for them at the moment. He's okay, just not as vexing as he looked. ;)

Hes alright from really really early powerful agression. By like t3 and later he is ok...
I think he has a home in certain decks, and he'll get better when M13 starts and RtR shows some good burn. Right now, Inny block is lacking good burn IMO.
I still argue that, while your enemy gets to choose, neither choice is good for them. Lesser of two evils. But as the game goes on, he gets worse and worse.
But the way i see it theres not many cards out there that are a 1 drop and get better the later the game goes on. Idk i just thought he was goin to be in every deck that had a little touch of red in them.

I agree with Jester, give it time, once Ravnica drops, a lot of cards are going to get a lot better. People will stop being so blind when the Titans are gone and they have to find less broken 6-drops.

I was actually thinking about poor little Vexing Devil yesterday. I still think he could be pretty fantastic, really. A lot of people don't seem to think so. Hell, if I had some, I'd definitely throw 'em in a deck!
I think he'd be good with some GY action going on. Frankly when you think about, without creature removal or counter magic, it's a bolt plus one. A 4 dmg 1 drop either as a creature to swing, maybe more than once, or 4 to the face. I think that's pretty effing good.
The problem is, in many ways he's the opposite of what RDW wants. He's DD early when you want an aggro critter to smash face and he's a cheap 4/3 when your opponents have better creatures on the table and you want that last bit of damage to finish them off.
Still, he could be a 4/3 wall for you.
True story. I just dont really see a downside to him. I'd actually like to build a standard deck around him.
I think it'd help to see him in action, rather then talk about it theoretically.

Very true. I have 3 at the moment. But since I only ever keep one of a card (rest for trade) it'll be hard for me to make a smooth standard deck.

this. he deals 4 early when he could easily swing for 8 or 12. and late game he is a 4/3 which can be chumped or killed when you need to push the last few points.
WOW he's dropped from prerelease value 15$ to 6$....

Vexing devil's synergy with {grim lavamancer} makes me ignore all of the doubting. Even if an opponent has a kill spell and let's him live, I'd rather they use the spell on my one drop and not my {hellrider}
He essentially IS the burn from Innistrad. Every spell outside of that is pretty lackluster. M13 didnt help either. My color was largely gutted.

If you look close, {hell rider} and his bird thing are what's being sucked up on {in to the void}
During fnm standard before the m13 prerelease I saw a pretty nasty rdw that had 4 {vexing devil}s in it. Along with {grim lavamancer}, {stromkirk noble}, and some red 1 drop 1/1 that you could sac to do 3 damage to a player. {shrine of burning rage} also, and lots of burn! Lol He did very well.
I got my second playset at the GP antlanta for my legacy burn deck which apparently is very competitive lol I mean I still love him
I really hate to say it but i think ppl have lost there creativity when it comes to building decks, everyone one knows how card prices work. If a card is taking over a tournement it jumps in price. And when ppl see that card winning they think well hey i could build a deck similar to that and make it my own. When really you would have never relisied how good that card was until it won a tourny. Im starting to see a sad pattarn when it comes to how cards are used. Im sure most ppl are using and loving the card very much and other cards alike. But until it wins a tourny magority will not be playing with them.

I love that card when drafting black. It can win you the game since people generally don't play enchant removal.
Well I knew how good {homocidal Seclusion} was so I literally picked up two of that destroy an artifact or enchantment gain 3 life card just in case I saw it

How is it never good? Barring counter magic or prevention shenanigans, it's at least 4 dmg. 4 damage is 4 damage is 4 damage.

This is where you are sadly mistaken and prove kangas point. How good a card is shouldn't rely on another card. You can't just throw out another card that works well with it and expect to have a consistent output. How many times seriously would you play t1 vexing devil and t2 orb? You are going to play torpor orb in a mono red deck for 1 card? I think not.
He is not a beast, read the card.
He is situational AT BEST. RDW doesn't consistently win in under 4 turns unless you are playing a wall game and "draw" every single card you need. Bj said it well too, the longer the game goes the worse he gets.
Torper orb in rdw is a killer. Lmao.
In the sideboard, it's a game winner. :)

I agree its an underplayed 2 cmc with all the etb creatures floating around
Resto angel, splicer, parish, snapcaster, all the titans, huntmaster, etc.
{vexing devil} seems to be missing something. Always has ... And what if nothing replaces {toptor orb} come rotation? He'll be even more wall material unless he's buffed somehow... If an enchant or sorcery could lunge him out of GY on the cheap perhaps... But there are better decks w/o him IMO. I do hope he finds a good home though.
