Title: Timing question
Post by: Kareason on July 03, 2012, 12:51:53 PM
Ok here is the hypothetical set up:

{Captain of the Mists} with {Dual Casting} in play.

If I cast {Thatchers Revolt}, I know I can pay R to copy it once.

My question is this. Can I stack the original TR and the Copy so that one goes off causing the CotM to untap and allowing me to copy the TR still on the stack again?  I am looking to see if this can be done for as many times as I have "R" to spend.

Thanks in advance.

No I'm pretty sure that they resolve at the same time. (I do not know for sure though)

Ok you have {captain of the mist} enchanted with {dual casting}.

You cast {thatcher revolt} and copy the revolt via dual casting with the captain.  The copy will resolve first.....leaving the original TR still on the stack, thus your captain untaps and allows you to continue to copy the original TR as many times as you can.

👍 cool combo

{Vigilante Justice} will give you bonus {Arc Lightning}s for each {R}.

I just haven't had a chance to get around to it.  {Havengul Vampire} is good times.

Thanks Cltrn81!  That is what I was going for exactly. Just wanted to get the timing of it down before I toss the deck together and have some of my friends question it.

Thanks to everyone else for the additional ideas, some of them I had not considered.

NP.....look foward to seeing the deck list.  {blood artist} would be a nice add if you splash black.....not sure if that was mentioned.

I would like to keep it mostly R to be honest but if/when I get it up and running I will post it.

If you're not limited to Standard, {Splinter Twin} would be an awesome addition too.   ;D

Is there a card Jester does not know?
(I doubt it :) )

I wish I had some but sadly I do not. And any cards are open since I play with friends only. We just stick to the 4 of a kind rule but otherwise if you have it then it's a legit play.

If I'm not mistaken. You should be able to infinite combo off this idea. Two {Captain of the Mists} each with a {Dual Casting}, cast {Thatcher Revolt} and stack {Battle Hymn}, tap down both your Captains to copy Revolt first, followed by Hymn, because the trigger of them untapping allows you to re tap with the gained mana. Thus you are able to re tap down your captain as muc as you want. Gaining infinite 1/1's with haste as well as red mana. Mill out someone with the new artifact in M13 or hard cast Bonfire of the Damned for lolz.

Unless I'm sorely mistaken by the concept of the time/stack. Thats the deck I use for funsies.

Works.

Cap'ns untap will trigger once for each human ETB. That means Revolt will actually put three untap triggers on Le Stack.  You can let the top one resolve, and put another tap ability on the stack.

You could also use {Phyrexian Altar} in place of the Hymn.

I was actually looking through my cards and hit on this too. Now I just need 2 more {Captain of the Mists}. I only have 2 and would like a better chance with a play set.

You are limited by your blue mana

All red mana is used =) No blue, cause i'm not using tap/untap ability. Tapping for dual cast enchant.

I went ahead and built this since I had all the cards for it. It's not perfect as I have it now (completely centered around the combo with little outside assistance), but I'm looking to change that. I was running 3 {faithless looting}s to get what I needed and then move on, but I think i'd rather have a few {riot ringleader}s or something. I'm not sure what to put in. But I really like when it does work out.  After add some potatoes to this meat, I'm sure the deck will run pretty smoothly. I think the combo will end up being a late-game win con, with red humans inflicting pain on the enemy in the meantime. Thank you for posting this! :) i'm enjoying playing it.

EDIT: Totally restated something someone had already posted I found on my own. Oops.
