I'm new to the format, so my knowledge base is limited to Standard really. That means I use counter spells like {negate} or {cancel}, or destroy spells like {naturalize} that usually get a few chuckles from the more experienced players. So basically what I'm asking is what are some of the most commonly used spells for each color, good blue counter spells, good green ramp spells, good black kill spells, etc. Typical artifacts (I already know sol ring).
If this thread proves helpful, may it be stickied for posterity?
{sensei's divine top}
{sol ring}
Any fetch lands work
{lightning greaves}
{æther vial}
{quicksilver amulet}
Those are all I can think of.
Great idea btw
{Counterspell}. BEST CARD!
{swift foot boots} are good {dark banishing}
{Murder} is going to help. (link probably won't work because it's in m13)
{Command Tower}
{Swiftfoot Boots}
{evolving wilds}
{whispersilk cloak}
{terramorphic expanse}
Tons of others I don't care to list.
But I will say, if you're playing EDH and don't include {Command Tower}, you're doing it wrong
{necropotence} is an easy way to abuse 40 life.
Board wipes board wipes board wipes!
{W} has {Day of judgment}, {Wrath of God}, {Austere Command}, {Akroma's Vengeance}, {Mass Calcify}, {Divine Reckoning}.
{B} has {Life's Finale}, {Black Sun's Zenith}, {Damnation}, etc
{R} has {Comet Storm}, {Blasphemous Act}, {Chain Reaction}, and a bajillion other damage-dealing {fireball} like effects.
As far as {counterspell} effects, I reccomend counters with added benefits for Commander. {Spell Crumple} and {Hinder} are the best since they can put a commander away in the bottom of the library. {Spin into Myth} is not a counter but excellent for the same reason. {Counterlash} is a good commander counter. {Forbid} and {spell burst} with their buybacks can be very useful as well.
That reminds me, I forgot {Terminus} for {W} wipes! Goodbye everyone's commanders!

Also, don't forget {capsize} if you're playing blue
Yes. 1000 times yes. {Capsize} is great in commander. And lots of fun. It's fun just to see how many times you can bounce stuff with it before people finally get fed up enough to {counterspell} it. {Reality Strobe} is fun like that too, but less versatile for the caster unless your deck is capable of manipulating time counters.
{Aura Shards}, {Nullmage Shepard}, {Time Stop} (for laughs), {Shield of the Oversoul}. Those are some good cards for EDH

Wait wouldn't the commander just go back to the command zone?

To my understanding no. Anytime a commander dies or is exiled its sent back to the commander zone. So bottom of library would work.
{Nevinyrral's Disk} for when things get out of hand.
{Pernicious Deed}, {Ratchet Bomb}, {Terminate}, {Sakura-Tribe Elder}, {Tranquility}, {Orim's Chant}, {Orim's Thunder}, {Syphon Mind}, {Syphon Soul}, {Syphon Flesh}, {Grave Pact}, {Damnation}, {Barter in Blood}, {Soul Warden}, {Essence Warden}
My latest fav is {Æther Snap}, gets rid of token swarms, +1/+1 counters, and PWs.
Does this work with {dark depths} to remov all of the counters?

👍
Not as good as {Vampire Sexmage}, but it does the job.
