Went to my 2nd FNM today, got a winning record! :D Well kind of haha.
My first match was against a wolf run ramper deck. I had him the first game easy. Turn 3 {Sorin, Lord of Innistrad}, then cast + flashback 2 {Lingering Souls}. Finisher move was {Wolfir Silverheart} soulbonded to a spirit token + sorin's emblem was out. A fast and smooth takedown.
Too bad it couldn't always be like this. Second game I ramped ramped ramped, but he kept killing my dorks. First with a bonfire, then with slagstorm or something. He got an inferno titan out and killed some spirit tokens. My response? O-ring. Then he got another one out and killed my sorin. My response? O-ring! He then green sunned into an acidic slime and destroyed my o-ring. It went downhill from there.
Third game I had a fast start, but couldn't seem to deal the final blow faster than he could recover. First with pesky glimmerposts, then he got out a batterskull. He green-sunned into a primeval titan and got out 2 nexus. I held back his attacks for a while, but eventually he wolf-ran his inkmoths into my sorry ass for 13 infect couters. Oh well.
Second match I got a free win because of the odd number of people there. Meh. That works I guess. I spent my time fine-tuning my on the house deck, as a marine sharpens his knife.
Third match for me I faced some aweful combination of first-strike, death touch, and card advantage...I guess. Either way I raped his face off 2 games in a row. Second game was funniest. It was pure humiliation. Then I humiliated him again in a casual game. Finisher was me using {Mercy Killing} on his 6/5. He took 18 damage and I gained 24 life. Ah, how I love thee, on house deck! I never sat below 20 life in that game.
Fourth match I faced a spirit delver deck. Favorible winds, snappy, drogskol captain...all that jazz. This is my least favorite deck to face. First game I mulliganed to 6. I should have gone down to 5 but no, I trusted to draw a forest. But no. I was stuck with a swamp and a chapel. Sigh. Not a pretty game
Second game I got the jead start with a champ of lambholt. I decided to attack with her early. NOT a good choice. He flashed in resto-ang and destroyed my sad 3/3 champ. But that's fine. I cast sorin. While my sorin grew larger, I fended off pesky angels and delvers with lingerig souls chump blockers. Then...the time came. He couldn't stop it. BAM! 2 restoration angels and a drogskol captain were mine. I liked how the captain buffed my own 4 spirit tokens. Yes, I won that game.
Second game didn't go so well. I got sorin out and o-ringed his favorible winds. But he just got another one out plus a crapload of spirit tokens. A quick death.
Final match I faced a RU burn deck. The first game I took a muligan. That helped a lot. Thank you, deck. This game went in waves (good song btw); I would get a ton of mana dorks out and he would wipe the field. This webt on and on. Next turn he was dead. But then he bonfired me and all my creatures to kingdom come. Meh. Whatever.
Second game I took my beautiful hand. It took a while because of all the 1/1 creature hate, but I got him with spirit tokens and a sorin emblem.
Third game I took a muligan. And what a beautiful muligan it was! I got sigarda out turn 3. Turn 4 I used garruk primal hunter to draw 5 cards. I overran him with 2 vorapedes and finished him with a wolfir bonded to sigarda. Classic.
So there you have it. I won one pack of avacyn and got complete s---. But that's fine; I had fun and I had a winning record! Hehe.
After all my games, this kid asked me to play. I felt mad at the spirit deck and went all-out on him with my "on the house". He scooped before I even gave him any tokens because of how much life I had, and because of the insane amount of annoying creatures (3 blood seekers, one blood artist, 3 soul wardens, 1 souls attendant, and 1 suture priest).
So yes that is my 2nd FNM experience. Now I have a question for you: I run GWb, so what can I put in that will hate on spirit tokens and delver?! Thanks!
Put in {Curse of Death's Hold} and {Ray of Revelation} maybe {Gut Shot}?
