Yes, well we all know you're special. I think it's safe to assume that, unless otherwise stated, a draft is 8 people at a table, single elim.

So wait. There's never Swiss drafts?

I didn't say never, but in my experience (mostly Prerelease events) drafts are typically single elimination.

Wow. Must be my store then.

Which do you prefer? Swiss or single elim?

How do they opperate a 162 person draft?  Do the same cards get passed around everyone? Split into groups? How long does that take?  That's bigger the the prereleases here.

Chicago Illinois at acen. The anime convention there.

We passed out 3 packs to everyone in each pod. I can't remember how many pods there were, but after the pods completed their decks, they reported and waited for round one.

I remember we didn't want to make it swiss because of how many people there was. So we made a bracket style for single elim. I was like 18 and couldn't judge so they had their regional judge come along with the area and local judges.

It took about 6 hours to get through 3 rounds. We did 6 rounds if I remember correctly. Which obviously took two days.

I'm pretty sure you can look up the exact numbers on google. Theres bound to be some info on it.

From what I understand, round numbers are based on player count in Swiss-style. 8 or less is 3 rounds. 9-16 players plays 4 rounds. 17+ plays 5 rounds.

All the places I know of here in the central Ohio area do drafts (and constructed also) all in Swiss style tourneys. That seems to be the rule of how many rounds are played, though I may be off by 1 (becomes 5 rounds at 16 not 17, can't remember for sure which)

With less than 8 people, sometimes its nessisary to have a fourth round for tie breakers. (we had one last night)

Aren't there supposed to be no tie breakers with Swiss style, because ties are settled based on the records of each player's opponents?  Granted, in a game with so few people that could get dicey... I guess I've never seen a tie. And when I draft with so few people with friends, it's all so casual that we settle ties with the roll of a die so we don't have to go through the hassle lol

Well yes. We only had 6 people and 3 of us had the exact same record.

I usually go to different stores every week. There are a lot around here.

The one I went to last night had a pretty small crowd.

Improbable, but not impossible. I imagine bigger cities have bigger crowds. Our 7pm fnm has usually 56-64 people.

But how many stores do you have in said area? Lol

There's like 11 different places to play around here.

Well. I live far away. But Olympia, Washington. It's the capital and like 20 miles from Seattle iirc.

It was 3 rounds with 12 people split into 2 pods. We only har 1 real local place to play fnm that I actually like and enjoy going to. The owner has helped me a lot transition from playing yugioh to magic. (yes I know yugioh 😥) our local fnm has anywhere from 16-24 people

You know, yugioh is similar to mtg from what I've seen recently. When I used to play (back in blue eyes set when packs were 1.99) card abilities were very simple. I notice recently they are magic-ish. Searching deck for cards, etb effects, exiling cards, etc.

The learning curve from yugioh to mtg wasn't that hard for me actually now it's just trying to learn multiple set of cards that I have no idea about like I know avacyn well but any of the older sets I have to read a lot when I play against older cards. But I'm getting there. Yugioh got a lot more complex when they dropped priority and that's when I started getting out because it became stupid IMO but thanks for the warm welcome guys I appreciate the advice. I posted my standard deck so any feed back on it would be awesome. Once again thanks guys 😁

I quit when they over saturated the game with Pre constructs. Dd warrior lady, raegeki, mystic space typhoon were all "commons". Not to mention everyone had 20-25 "staple" cards. #endrant

It was just as bad when I got out literally there were 5 decks that's it and all the traps and spells were the same in each one so I got out and came to mtg to find (unsurprisingly) more creativity and imagination when it came to deck building
